SPECIFIC CONDITION OF THIS ITEM IS AS FOLLOWS :

The front cover, as you can see from the photos, showcases another stunning peel. Beautiful colors and fleshtones. Gorgeous fine detail without the excessive and pronounced streaks that you so often see running across the top of other covers. Just look at the exquisite detail in the extreme close ups ! The removed trunk slick is one of the nicest you will see in one solid piece without excessive wrinkling or tears. As you can see from the photos, the trunk slick lays perfectly flat against the Butcher Cover.

The top and bottom seams are nice and solid on this one with no breaks or splits. The spine is complete and all writing is legible with some beginning cracks in a few spots which have been secured but nothing too tragic. The back of the jacket exhibits just a few light water marks on the right side that are slightly visible with the flash photo on the right side of the jacket and another three very small dots near the bottom. Other than this, there is some light aging on the top of the borders and trunk slick and a slightly darker spot in the bottom left corner border on the front and a small dimple on the top right corner. We are trying to be as specific as possible, but please know that any of the minor issues with this jacket do not seriously detract from the overall quality and power of the piece as a whole.

A remarkable piece which sports an exceptional peel and nice removed trunk slick.

Most importantly, please examine the photos for the quality. We consistently offer the best quality Butcher Covers at the best price. Shop around before you buy. You may see other peeled butchers that range from destroyed to excellent, but look closely at ours and you will see the difference. You may find offers for peeled Butcher Covers that exhibit pronounced streaks, blotches and prominent glue lines. Most folks don't realize that some of these issues are not only caused by the pasteover process but also sometimes by the peeling process itself. You may see advertisements for peeled Butchers that have a "first state look", but if you look closely for the prominence of the lines, blotches, smears or residue, such claims of a "first state look" are inaccurate. We've pioneered a series of techniques over a period of years that minimize, and in many instances, nearly eliminate such issues.

Our Grading Scale is as follows:

MINT (M)
You will often see this term (Stone Mint !) here or there but we personally aren‘t fans of this grade and feel it is overused by some just to make a buck. Just as a baseball card removed from a sealed pack is far from mint, merely from factory handing, records and jackets which are always subject to far more mishandling are nearly impossible to find mint. If you see this term, beware and have the item graded by more than one expert to be sure.

NEAR MINT (NM OR M-)
A NM (Near Mint or Mint -) record should look new and like it was properly stored. Due to the fact that some rock and jazz records and jackets are now 40 and 50+ years old, this grade is that much harder to come by as these jackets tend to age no matter how properly they are stored.

NM records should be glossy and new in appearance, with no major defects. Labels should be clean and free of spindle marks, etc. Keep in mind that Near Mint records are NOT MINT ! A NM record can have been played but must be free of surface noise and serious marks. In our grade of NM, one or two very slight wisps may be acceptable as long as they don’t effect play. NM covers must be clean with no writing, sticker, stains etc. Age foxing/browning should be very light on such a jacket.

Very Good Plus(VG+) or Near Mint Minus (NM-)A VG+ grade is close to a NM grade with one or two minor issues. In other words, some minor scuffs to a record or a cut out hole or small split on a record jacket. Aging can be more pronounced on a VG+ jacket but the jacket shouldn’t have multiple issues going on at once. Records should play nicely with minimal issues.

Very Good (VG)Very Good (VG)VG records and jackets have more issues going on than VG+ counterparts. Records may have more scratches and some surface noise but shouldn’t be horrible ! Jackets may have a name, stains and or stickers and splits. These jackets may have a few of these issues at once but should not be trashed !

Good Plus (G+) or Very Good Minus (VG–)Good is one of the most misused grades out there. Good should not mean bad. Record may have significant surface noise that may border on distraction but should not skip or have deep pops that might damage your stylus ! Jackets will show significant ring wear, splits, etc but should still be in enjoyable condition. Not a bad grade for a filler or beginner copy of some rare records.

POOR (P) and Fair (F)These are grades to stay away from unless you are talking about excruciatingly rare items that you cannot find in any other condition. Often these records and jackets are referred to as “whipped”, “trashed” etc. Records may skip or have distracting heavy surface noise that overcomes the music. Jackets will have multiple issues such as split seams, heavy water damage, writing, tears, stickers etc.

About Us and The Peeling Process

Your satisfaction is of utmost importance to us and we work hard to provide the best items that are properly packed and promptly shipped.

We have been performing professional peels, poster restoration art and professional custom archival framing for more than two decades and our work has been displayed in galleries and sold by some of the world's most renowned memorabilia dealers and largest auction houses around the world. We've been credited in the past two decades as a contributor to several prominent Beatles memorabilia guides and have a full page display in the latest hardcover Price Guide For the American Beatles Records. We've been selling quality genuine Beatles memorabilia on Ebay since 1998 and have worked professionally in the music industry for over three decades.

The photos you see are of the exact item that is being offered for sale. All professional peeling and or restoration to any piece we sell is done strictly in house. We aren't secondary market sellers that sent our jackets out to be peeled. Our 2nd state pieces never leave our site and are never sent out to others for peeling or restoration work and therefore we can vouch 100% to what work has been performed and have complete forensic records of same to insure your confidence of authenticity and an unbroken chain of custody regarding the Butcher Cover that you are purchasing. All of our butchers come with an embossed stamped and dated COA specific to the transaction certifying the history of the cover being purchased.

Why Buy From Us ?

The short answer is, that we save you the trouble of having to buy a 2nd state and then sending it off to get peeled. The truth is that you can do this yourself, as to the best of our knowledge, no professional peeler is under an exclusive contract to anyone. The long answer is, that we take the time to select the finest examples of genuine 2nd state (pasteover) Butcher Covers and spend many hours carefully and properly removing the original trunk covers so that these rare and highly prized treasures can be restored back to their original and magnificent gory glory. Restoration art, whether you are talking about poster restoration or peeling and restoring Butcher Covers, is a carefully honed skill and that takes many years to perfect and as you can see from the photos, our results are truly amazing. Please email us if you would like to see a video of a restoration in progress.

We are one of the only restoration artists on Ebay selling directly and one of the things you don't hear about is the degradation of print from solvents and rubbing used during the peeling process. We work especially hard to avoid this. If you look carefully you will see sections of the dot printing on some Butchers for sale that appear flat grey or which appear to be missing the fine diagonal lines. This is due to excessive glue removal and what actually happens is that the print gets rubbed off. Removal of the Capitol factory glue used to paste the Trunk Cover over the Butcher Cover is a careful and tedious process and too much removal can mean the loss of print. Again, we must stress that much time is taken to assure that all Butchers we offer are handled with utmost care as preservation of these scarce jackets is of utmost importance.

PLEASE CHECK OUR FEEDBACK FOR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION REGARDING THE MANY PAST SALES OF GENUINE BUTCHER COVERS.

History and Terminology Of The Butcher Cover

For those who don't know, this is the famous album that was banned by Capitol records prior to release in 1966 and then covered over with the more familiar trunk cover. The butcher scene was deemed too gruesome for the general public. As a result, Capitol destroyed a great quantity of these but eventually found it more economical to cover the offending jacket with the more familiar trunk cover.

For terminology sake: 1st state: is a copy that was never covered over with a trunk cover. They are extremely rare and were practically never sold in stores and only used as promos for radio and sales managers. 2nd state: is a butcher cover with the trunk cover pasted over. 3rd state: Is a 2nd state butcher cover that has had its trunk cover(hopefully professionally) removed.

Our reserves are the most reasonable on Ebay ! First state butchers have sold for as much as $40,000! You can own a real 3rd state butcher for a tiny fraction of that cost. These are quickly being snatched up by collectors as fast as they appear. As you can see from the photo , this is a truly gorgeous example of this rare treasure.

Although this jacket is in nice shape and a record and inner sleeve can comfortably fit inside, we strictly advise against placing or storing a record and inner sleeve inside the jacket as doing this would cause possible future pressure and damage to seams and 40 year old paper. This auction includes the genuine 1966 Olive Capitol Scranton Inner Sleeve that came with this piece and mono record in VG condition. (Pasteover Butcher Covers were mostly issued with Gold inners, but some contained Olive colored inner sleeves as evidently, Capitol had leftover Olive inner sleeves that they needed to use). We have found these Olive inner sleeves in shrink wrapped cut out Pasteover Jackets in the past so we know it wasn't an issue of swapped out inner sleeves and that it was an actual factory inserted sleeve. The removed (peeled) trunk slick is included in framable condition with just a bit of wear near the top of George's head. Although we have attempted to accurately capture the true beauty of this gorgeous piece using a digital camera, please keep in mind that all close up photos have been taken with flash which can tend to dull, brighten or wash out the pictures of item you see here. Please feel free to contact with any and all questions about condition if you are unsure.

WE STRIVE TO BE COMPLETELY ACCURATE WHEN DESCRIBING ITEMS.CONDITION AND DESCRIPTION IS OFTEN SUBJECTIVE AND THEREFORE WE STRESS ANYONE WITH QUESTIONS ABOUT CONDITION SHOULD CONTACT US FOR FURTHER EXPLANATION PRIOR TO BIDDING. COVER COMES WITH A CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY SPECIFYING THAT IT IS INDEED A GENUINE 3RD STATE BUTCHER AND CERTIFYING THE PEELING PROCESS AND CHAIN OF CUSTODY FROM 2ND TO 3RD STATE.ALSO INCLUDED IS A PACKET OF FUN INFORMATION AND HISTORY ABOUT THE BUTCHER COVER THAT YOU WILL FIND NOWHERE ELSE !
