LAUDATE! –
17th Century Devotional Music –
Proprius 7800 Gatefold –
Original Swedish Pressing
In the library of the University of Uppsala, Sweden, the Düben Collection of Music from the 17th century is one of the world`s most outstanding: 1,500 works, with over 13,000 sheets of music.
This LP release from Sweden delivers selections from that collection of devotional music, and is recorded in a manner, I tell you, has you at once believing you are hearing singers and musicians from the period, just as they might be heard in church and court. (The air and space in this recording is uncanny.)
The musicians are the Uppsala Akademiska Kammarkor and Drottningholms Barockensemble, conducted by Anders Ek; Eva Eriksson, Anne Sofie von Otter, Stefan Dahlberg, Ulf Lundmark, Olle Skold, soloists.
The music is that of Stefano Fabri, Christoph Bernhard, Simone Vesi, Gioseppe Peranda, Johann Heinrich Schmelzer, Francesco Foggia, Vincenzo Albrici, Christian Geist, and Johann Valentin Meder, among other notables.
An outstanding musical outing, recorded wonderfully, here in a cover that is very smart and without fault, while, within, is the original pressing, near mint as can be, beautifully kept.
Not to be missed. Incredible definition and imaging here, make no mistake, that works especially well in a listening room bathed in candlelight.

Shipping and handling is $5 for up to 5 LPs shipped within the States. Internationally, $15 via airmail for the first LP, $3 each thereafter. (Canada is half that.) Boxes over 4 lbs., add another $6, because First Class is no longer available at that weight, just Priority Mail. Note, too, boxed sets of LPs require more postage.
