Description
Saturn LP # A/B1984SG-9 – matrix SUN RA 1984 A/B – yellow paste-on labels ( see photo & scan ).
The LP’s A-side in EX+ condition with hints of superficial (and inaudible) paper-sleeve marks – nice for an original Saturn LP and plays very well with barely any surface noise – a little at the beginning and some in the final groove – great sound. The B-side plays with only a bit more occasional surface crackle from pressing, slightly more towards the end of the side – it has a few small scuff areas or superficial hairlines – two look like they would sound mildly, but are either inaudible or don’t show as more than part of the occasional surface crackle – I noticed two medium loud ticks in the middle of the side – so side B should be rated a notch below VG+ . The cover is with an orange colour paste-on of the tape-writer type and has some felt-pen lines added by one of the musicians – not so great, but that’s how it is – it is in VG+ to EX- condition – near perfect seams and corners, just a little ring-wear rubbing and hint of staining (see photo). Not a perfect copy, but really not bad – you won't be disapointed. This LP turns up rarely and tends to gravitate towards the $400 mark and above when more perfect and with a nicer cover.
This LP’s tracks are from the last Variety studio recordings in 1982, same as the "Celestial Love" LP, the last new studio recordings to be released on the Saturn label. Sun Ra’s swinging (yes !) organ is featured prominently and the Arkestra’s playing just great and well recorded here. Two of the tracks on side A were also released on the equally very rare Y label LP "Nuclear War", but two thirds of this LP can be only found here : Makeup which ends side A and the outstanding, absolutely essential side-long track Fireside Chat with Lucifer.
The LP will be shipped at actual cost, which depends on how you wish the LP packaged. Packaged minimally, directly in a mailer so that the package doesn’t exceed 500g, it would be $8.75 to the US and $15.75 to Europe, Japan or elsewhere – it could work just fine but there’s always danger of dinged or bent corners etc. Packaged properly, with additional layers of cardboard around the LP would be $13.50 to the US and $30.75 to Europe, Japan or elsewhere. Really sorry for that, but that’s Canada Post prices for international Air Mail, which includes a basic insurance for up to 100 Can$ (= about $99) if that value is declared on the package.
