SURF PUNKS “My Beach” 1980, Day Of Release WHITE LABEL PROMO w/ Insert. NM Vinyl
Truly a rare collectable! A day of release white label promotional copy with a printed hype letter insert, and a gold “for promotion only” gold stamp on top left corner of the rear of the cover. Pressed at the CBS Santa Maria plant, the vinyl looks flawless, NEAR MINT. The Cover is intact with no losses or tears, small corner dings. The glossy printed inner sleeve is also intact, with small seam splits, but no major creases or tears. One side of the inner has song lyrics, credits, and a “surf punks glossary”, the other side has a band photo. Nearly 44 years old, can a better vintage white label promo be found?
A unique tongue in cheek masterpiece of the SoCal surfing culture. Think Ramones surf punk style! The disdain for “Vals” (San Fernando Valley youths) is palpable in their lyrics and presentation. The band was formed by Dennis Dragon, the brother of Daryl Dragon of Captain and Tennille fame and Drew Steele, the stepson of actor Gavin Macleod. Wild live shows, and heavy rotation at radio station KROQ brought a massive following. Fun stuff, but also a worthy listening experience.
