From 1976, out of Illinois, though not released until 1977, comes the prog rock group Surprise with their LP Assault On Merryland on Carousel Records TS77-743/744. A wonderful prog LP about a young girl who was betrothed to a prince when she was very young. She did not love him. She lived on another world and her step mother banished the light from that world until the girl would marry the man she was betrothed to. The step daughter and her lover (a commoner), went to her father and got help and brought light back to the darkened world. Great prog concept album with mini moog, grand piano, organ, celeste,electric and bass guitar, gongs, tympani, arp, moog taurus, acoustic guitar, vocals, drums, and more! The cover is a fantastic piece of fantasy art with mermaids, rivers of color dripping down the hillside, a dragon, a man in a medieval costume, a princess, and flying insects of unknown variety. The group's name is formed from snakes, butterflies, and cracks in the road. Definitely the best cover EVER of this sort! Includes lyric booklet!
