Japanese jazz pianist and composer Hiromasa Suzuki was a prolific artist from the 70s onwards. His Skip Step Colgen from 1977 is a jazz-funk classic with a futuristic album cover to match the fresh sounds within. His conversational sax takes the lead on many tunes while the rhythm sections often bring plenty of disco influences from the States. Tender moments like 'Gentle Wave' bring plenty of sentimentality then there are all-out jazz-funk dance floor bombs like the restless 'Orpheus Negro.' A classic of its era for sure.
