Note = This is the same item that I listed yesterday. I removed  it temporarily because I was not entirely satisfied with my first description (slightly overgraded, especially about the visual condition of the record). What is more I forgot the soundclips, and the subtitle of my ad. Now, everything's ok. Thanks for your understanding.

Listen to the soundclips. I recorded around 5 minutes of each side in one shot, with the beginning and the end of each track (I left the blanck inbetween tracks). This way, you can check the real condition of the record...

Absolutly enjoyable) Side B : VG+ to VG++ (looks VG/VG+ with surface scuffs, ring marks and traces, plays mostly VG++ to near EX with a few tiny crackles, more listenable between tracks)

Cover = VG-/VG (seriousely dog eared, corners and slices seriousely worn (slightly ripped at the right slice), serious ring wear, traces, slightly turned yellow, little hand writing at the top left corner, hand writing + a little split at the back)

Label = clean

Weight = 250 grs

Sweet Talks were amongst the top five most popular bands in Ghana during the 1970s having recorded a string of hit albums. ‘The Kusum Beat’ was originally released in 1974 and became a household favourite with heavy emphasis on the ‘Afro’ through its traditional rhythms and motifs, blended together into a modern mix that combined highlife, funk and Afrobeat.

Like a small handful of seminal Ghanaian albums, The Kusum Beat has stood the test of time and sounds as original and unique today as it did back in 1974. Original pressings are in high demand and can be found on record exchanges for significant prices. This was the second album from the band formerly known as ‘El Dorados’, later to change their name to ‘Medican Lantcis’ before settling on ‘Sweet Talks’ – they were live residents at the legendary ‘Talk of the Town’ nightclub in the port town of Tema near Accra. It is here they established a name for themselves as one of the most exciting young bands in the country.

Due to the popularity and commercial success of their first three albums – Adam & Eve, Kusum Beat and Spiritual Ghana – the band began touring on a regular basis and made it as far as Los Angeles. They went on to record what was to be their biggest selling record, the Hollywood Highlife Party LP, as well as some straight disco recordings aimed squarely at the burgeoning American market.

The Kusum Beat is far from typical of their trademark sound but shows just how versatile an outfit they were – able to turn their hands to any one of a number of styles. It’s a great reminder of how open-minded, experimental and curious the music scene in Ghana was in the first half of the 1970s.

Very rare LP by seminal Ghanaian band. The record was released simultaneously on both Philips Ghana and Phonogram [Coconut] in Nigeria. The Sweet Talks were deservedly huge in both regions. touring Nigeria constantly and making many records exclusively for release in the Nigerian market. This is one of the most solid & original of all Ghanaian LP's from the time. The quoted text above postulates that this slab was dropped in 74 but the Philips labels say 76. either way, it's wicked groovy

GRADING For LP / NOTATION pour les disques :

NM (NEAR MINT) : Near perfect copy, played only a few times. At worst it may have one or two insignificant flaws.The highest grade I give for a non-seled record .../ Disque et pochette impéccables, joué seulement quelques fois.

EX (EXCELLENT) : Clean copy, there may be a few very light light surface traces/hairlines, plays with a few tiny crackles, cover has minor defaults.

VG++ (VERY GOOD++) : A few light surface traces/scuffs, plays with very light crackles. There may be a few traces or marks on the cover, corners or slices slightly worn...Nothing serious but is not graded EX because of few minor defaults / Très bon état dans l'ensemble, avec de légères traces et rayures en surface, très légers craquements audibles.

VG+ (VERY GOOD +) : Played a lot, will show signs of handling, has surface marks and scuffs, plays with light crackles or light surface noise background, no serious scuffs, no serious crackles. Cover slighty worn (traces, light ring wear, dog eraed, corner and slices slightly worn...)

VG (VERY GOOD) : Used record, played a lot, has a lot of surface traces, marks and scuffs, crackles and a few clicks while playing, sometimes constants but not too serious,  no serious clicks or jumps. Still enjoyable.

VG- (VERY GOOD MINUS) : Played a lot and more (but still playable), a lot of scuffs, marks, and traces, a lot of crackles while playing, sometimes serious, may have a few serious scuffs with serious clicks (or a few little jumps). The cover is in a bad state, damaged.../ Disque très utilisé (mais peut l'être encore...), beaucoup de griffes, de traces et de marques, peut avoir de sérieuses rayures , avec de sérieux craquements, avec la possibilité de sauter légèrement. La pochette est en mauvais état, endommagée...

G (GOOD) : Indeed, not so good...but still alive ! Played while his entire life (and once again today !), or really ill-traited...A lot of serious traces, marks and scuffs, serious crackles and surface noises while playing, serious clicks, may have jumps...And the cover is really in a very bad state too, even no entire...Must be very rare to be proposed in this state.../ En effet, pas si bon...mais encore vivant !

POOR : ? = dead ? hard or impossible to listen to it...should be listed only in a batch. Cover ? better to say no more cover !
