These former indie-pop poster-boys have taken something of a jump into unchartered and decidedly psychedelic territory with their second album, and as it turns out it rather suits them. Their trademark effervescent melody, falsetto exuberance and somewhat inappropriately summery atmosphere are all present and correct, yet newly adventurous sonic horizons are also visible, taking in influences as diverse as Tangerine Dream, The Flaming Lips, acid house and Prefab Sprout. Kaleidoscopic, hedonistic and vibrant, 'Mothers' is the sound of a band stepping up a gear, cleansing their collective third eye in the process with alarmingly engaging results.
