Scarce vintage Puerto Rican folk lp: SYLVIA REXACH CANTA (SINGS) SYLVIA REXACH - Instituto de Cultura, ICP MP 12, 14 tracks; no printed release date but circa the mid-1950's; all text on the back is in Spanish. She is accompanied on these track by guitarist Tuti Umpierre. Rexach (1922 – 1961), was a Puerto Rican comedy scriptwriter, poet, singer and composer of boleros. She was the founder of the first Combo in Puerto Rico consisting entirely of women. In the 1950's she began recoring her own compositions, some of which were originally begun when she was a teenager. The tones of Rexach's compositions vary from the soft and romantic to the harsh and tormented. Condition: VG/G+ (vinyl still has some gloss, with moderate scuffing and some mostly-soft scratches - there are a few slightly heavier ones that I can feel, but it plays through and sounds VG+ or better with a few short areas of light background or minimal ticks; labels are clean; jacket has some heavy rippling and acopuple of small edge tears to the paper overlay on the back cover, and some edge wrinkles and minor corner rubbing).
