Borderline is a song by American singer Madonna from her debut album in '83. She used refined & expressive vocals to deliver lyrics about an unfulfilled love. Critics applauded the song, calling it harmonically the most complex track from the album & praising its dance-pop nature. In the USA it was her 1st Top-10 hit, peaking at #10. In the UK it hit #2 after re-released as a single there in '86. It hit the Top 10 or 20 in numerous European countries, while topping the Singles Chart in Ireland. Borderline placed #84 on Blender magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs Since You Were Born, while Time included it on their critics list of All-Time 100 Songs.
Lucky Star (also from her debut album) is a medium-paced dance track that combines the heavy drum beats with guitar sounds played in a high riff. The lyrics juxtapose the male body with the heavenly stars in the sky. Critics praised the song, heralding it as the introduction to upbeat dance music. In the USA it hit #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 (becoming the 1st single in her record-breaking string of 16 consecutive Top-5 hits) & hit # on1 the Dance Club Songs charts. Internationally it hit the Top 10 in Canada & the Top 20 in Ireland & the UK.
