Description
Reference Recordings Mastercuts RM-1005, limited numbered edition, number 01853. Gershwin, American in Paris, Promenade, Catfish Row Suite from Porgy and Bess. Leonard Slatkin conducts the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. See pics for program details.
These performances were originally engineered by Joanna Nikrenz and Marc Aubort and the same team that did the Skrowaczewski Ravel set on VOX, and have always been highly regarded, both for the great performances and the terrific sound. Listed in The Absolute Sound Super Disc List. According to the notes on the jacket, they were originally recorded in a four channel format, with the two channel versions being mixed down from the four channel tape onto a two channel tape which was then used to master the records. This issue was cut directly from the original four track 15 ips master tape, but using only the two front channels.
