Second Hand - Funeral/ Hangin' On An Eyelid

Record Condition: M- top copy, sleeve is VG++ with a little light wear only and even comes complete with it's side tag or 'languette' I think it's called.

Second Hand began life as the Moving Finger and produced one of the landmark UK psych LPs in "Reality" from 1968 which really pushed the boundaries. After a 3 year break they came back with the apocalyptic "Death May Be Your Santa Claus" from 1971 which still sounds ahead of it's time and apparently soundtracked an art/anarchy/post-hippy film of the same name. Tales were told about teenage drug-induced suicides inspired by the title track, which was then replaced with a newly recorded track called "Funeral" on a 1972 second issue of the LP. So it goes, but I'm not sure Funeral exactly oozed the joys of life, seemingly being a state of the nation address about how we are going down the tubes and all going to die anyway. Musically it is rather wonderful, harking back to orchestrated baroque psych, while looking ahead to a unique self-made genre nobody ever really explored again unfortunately. The B side is equally wonderful and strange. Second Hand were doomed to be unsuccessful innovators. Rather optimistically, Funeral was issued as a 45 in the UK on Mushroom in stereo, albeit in tiny quantities, and only a handful have ever shown up. Equally if not more rare is this French 45, which uniquely has mono mixes of both sides, which are noticeably different to the stereo mixes. Only one copy of this on popsike in the last 10 years, indicating just how rare it is. Listen to both sides below.

I have been told I have to start selling off the majority of my collection. Apparently boxes and boxes of records are neither a good use of space, nor aesthetically pleasing. I disagree with both those opinions, but only under my breath. So for a quiet life I am offering the bulk of my collection accumulated over a 30 odd year period in batches of 20 or so a week over the coming months all starting at fiver - less than a packet of 20 Woodbines, and much better for your health. I have always been much more interested in the obscure and the peculiar, particularly from the golden age of pop/rock - the late 60s and early 70s. So listed are many curios, obscurities and rarities I have found over the years, many demos and small labels. Musically they range from pure pop through to beat and psych, prog, folk and rock. I have upped my game recently and will now be uploading my 45s to Youtube so you can actually hear and see the 45s you will be bidding on.

Grading

M-:    As new, no marks of any kind whatsoever.

EX:    Perhaps a few featherlight whispy marks visible under bright light, but no scratches or deterioration in sound.

VG+: Some light marks on the vinyl, but nothing feelable that could cause clicks or pops, just occasional light surface noise.

VG:   Some heavier marks and maybe a few scratches that will cause some noise, but will still be a very enjoyable listen with definitely no sticks or    skips or constant surface noise.

Postage

Postage within UK is £2.50 which includes 'signed for' post and no extra charge for any additional records won. If you require insured postage this will be extra and this option will be available on the invoice. We will post worldwide at cost, usually around £4.50 for uninsured for the first 45 and an additional £1.00 for each additional record. Insured will be an additional £6.00.
