This is an important set of 3 records composed by Hanns Eisler in the 1930s. Some of the words were written by poet Berthold Brecht. Eisler and Brecht were popular in the 1920s in Germany but were not favored by the rising Nazi party. In 1925 Eisler moved to Berlin—then a hothouse of experimentation in music, theater, film, art and politics. There he became a member of the Communist Party of Germany and became involved with the November Group. His music became increasingly oriented towards political themes and more "popular" in style with influences drawn from jazz and cabaret. At the same time, he drew close to Bertolt Brecht, whose own turn towards Marxism happened at about the same time. The collaboration between the two artists lasted for the rest of Brecht's life. Eventually, this political stance led to both men being banned by the Nazis from Germany where they first fled to Moscow, and finally to the United States. This set of 3 records reflects their leftist / communist leanings and their reflection on that philosophy being applied to the American worker. Al 3 records were released by the Timely Record Company, an American Communist record company in the 30s.

Record 1 features the songs Forward! We've Not Forgotten and The Internationale. Recorded in 1935, it features songs by Hanns Eisler and Pierre Degeyter. Both sdies were sung by The New Singers. It is in excellent condition.

Record 2 features Rise Up! and In Praise Of Learning. Both songs were composed by Hanns Eisler. Rise Up has words by V. J. Jerome and Learning has words by Berthold Brecht. Both songs were sung by The New Singers. This record is in very good+ condition.

Record 3 features United Front and The Soup Song. Music by Hanns Eisler and words by Berthold Brecht on United Front and Maurice Sugar on The Soup Song. Both songs were sung by the New Singers. This record took a hit on the edge and has a hairline crack which extends almost 1/2 inch into the playing field but does not affect the playback too badly.
