A rare copy of this title, described on the back cover as follows:
In the spring of 1967, more than a month before the release of Sgt. Pepper, Paul McCartney arrived in San Francisco with an unfinished acetate version of the album's pivotal track, "A Day in the Life," which he left with members of the Jefferson Airplane. [...] The Airplane apparently gave a copy of the tape to a disc jockey at KMPX-FM, a San Francisco free-form rock station, which began airing it. "No one had ever heard anything remotely like it," says critic Greil Marcus. "People began to talk about it and to stay by their radios for a chance to hear it again" [...] Marcus soon secured an unfinished tape of the album. "It was a crummy, probably fifth generation tape of Sgt. Pepper," he says. "The songs were out of order. It wasn't anything like what was released. It wasn't even in stereo - and that was the ultimate stereo record at the time. And it was still absolutely astonishing."
THIS IS a vinyl copy of that "crummy" tape on the Hawk Records label [#SGT 19670].
The vinyl does have one visible light scratch at the beginning of side two, but per a test listen to the entire disc, it does not affect playback. However, although it thus merits a Very Good Plus [VG+], please do be aware that the original recording itself is of poor quality. Specifically, it sounds rather "murky". Still, as a memento of the events described above, it is a rare find.
The original cover is in Excellent [EX] condition.
Someone wrote on the inner sleeve (see photo), so I am only grading that as Very Good Plus [VG+], but save for the writing it would also be Excellent [EX].
