Description
On offer here is the INCREDIBLY RARE ORIGINAL UK RELEASE OF SHELAGH McDONALD'S ALBUM ON B+C RECORDS FROM 1970.This lost classic features the absolutely beautiful voice of the Scottish singer and an array of superb musicians,including Andy Roberts,Keith Christmas,Roger Powell,Keith Tippett,Pat Donaldson,Ian Whiteman,Gerry Conway,Mike Evans,Tristan Fry and Gordon Huntley.I remember thinking all those decades ago how Shelagh could remain so unknown and why her albums sold in such small numbers,but,at last,it seems her beautiful voice is now appreciated and her two albums are considered the classics they undoubtedly are.Her story is well documented as how after a bad experience in London,she returned home and disappeared for decades.It was only after the new found adulation of recent years and much speculation that she re-appeared and told her story.
Anyway,back to the record.The sleeve is in excellent condition and remains firm and clean.There may be a tiny bit of discolouration down the right hand edge of the front cover,or it could be the design.I honestly don't know but,either way,it does not detract at all from the condition of the sleeve.The labels are clean and bright,which brings me on to the vinyl condition,where i will be as honest and precise as i possibly can,as i realise this is an album that can attract high bids.There are three little marks on the vinyl on Side 1,which look like they could affect part of tracks 1,2 and 3.Other than that,the vinyl still looks visually stunning.Ironically,the marks don't seem to affect the play at all,but there is a slight underlying crackle to the record throughout and this is the main point i want to make.The record plays absolutely fine throughout with absolutely no skips or jumps,but the slight underlying crackle can be heard through the record and is particularly noticable between tracks and during quiet pieces.However,it in no way stops the clarity and power of Shelagh's voice and the superb instrumentation of the aforementioned musicians from shining through and the record remains a quality listen.For these reasons,and so no potential buyer is disappointed,i am only going to rate the vinyl as VG,although i may be doing myself a disservice as i have purchased many records classed as EX that were certainly no better than this.In summary;
SLEEVE EXCELLENT
LABELS EXCELLENT
