Description
Purple Rain (Prince & The Revolution: 1984)
Enormously successful soundtrack to the extremely successful motion picture. This is the record that got Tipper Gore to start the PMRC: the lyrics to "Darling Nikki" were too much for her. Working closely with a backing band (the Revolution) for the first time, he has distorted guitars, arena-rock anthems, funky calls for sexual abandon, angry love songs, spiritual redemption... what more could you want? It's divided among rock, dance and ballads, sometimes more than one at a time ("The Beautiful Ones").
