Simon & Garfunkel Sounds Of Silence LP 1967 UK 2nd Issue E J Day - Awesome Audio

Description

An original 2nd issue of 'Sounds of Silence' on the UK CBS label from late-1967. Matrix A2/B4. Now, I note that there are a couple other copies of this exact LP offered on E-bay as '1st press' no less! But let's do some basic logic here... 1st released in Jan 1966 SoS would have been available during much of 1966 on the '33' textured label in mono and stereo. So, this version cannot have been from 1966 and this label is most certainly not describable as 1st press [tut tut!]. The heavy set vinyl comes housed in an original Ernest J Day front-laminated cover 'stereo' stickered sleeve. The 1966 covers were printed by E.J Day and, then, during '68 Shorewood took over the honours. So, whilst relatively early - this copy is certainly not a '66 copy. It has, however, been well cared for and is preserved to an unusually high standard.
Vinyl (Ex+) In absolutely superb condition and has only seen the lightest use. Under close inspection we could only make out a couple of light marks - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback. And let me be quite frank - it is not easy to find a clean top-level playing copy of this title. For it was incredibly popular and often played to death - the acoustic nature makes it extremely susceptible to audible interference. Thankfully this copy really is preserved like no other and clearly has only seen low mileage. It is most certainly the cleanest copy I have ever auditioned and transparency levels are extremely impressive. Interference is totally absent. We couldn't detect more than a couple of crackles the entire way through. Stunning copy...I'm amazed...
Cover (Ex) In great shape and has been looked after down the years. A lovely shiny front with only one tiny thumbnail crease. The rear appears to have escaped the usual fading and remains in great condition. Edge wear is mostly light with just a touch running along the edge of the spine - the text is all still legible. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Ex) Plain white inner - might be original not 100% sure. No splits.
