Loft classics set of six limited edition 12" singles - Setsale;£48 + £ 6.50p&p
This is a significant collection of six, hard to find 12" singles, of tunes played by David Mancuso & other DJs at his famous Loft, New York parties. 'Loft classics' 12" series is described as unauthorised limited releases. Many are extended mixes. Timings are given where known. The record labels do not give full details. My info is obtained from other sources & is accurate to the best of my knowledge. The Vinyl is in excellent/VG condition, according to 'Record collector' magazine gradings. The card covers are in reasonable condition, but show some signs of wear & have tears. See photos. I have other Loft singles currently for sale on ebay & would combine postage if bought together.

The Loft New Yorkis considered to be the first rave dance party. Started by David Mancuso inFebruary 1970, it differed from typical nightclubs, by being an invitation onlyparty featuring a high quality sound system. Rent parties had been popularsince the 30's, offering free non alcoholic drinks & hot food. LouisJordan's 1950 recording of Saturday night at the fish fry,(not a Loft tune),describes a typical 40s rent party. Essentially Mancuso created a new type ofrent party where the Loft's relaxed atmosphere was particularly welcomed by thegay community who were, at that time, even more harassed in bars & danceclubs than today. The music was basically 60s & 70s R & B or anythingthat was danceable, including pop/R&B crossover music by groups like theRolling Stones & Brian Auger. Despite some of the record titles the musicdefinitely wasn't disco. When 12" singles came in DJs took records whichhad a drum solo in the middle, get two 45rpm singles versions, go back &forth, thus expanding the length of the tune, creating extended mixes. The Loftconcept was borrowed by many nightclub entrepreneurs. Mancuso is indirectlyresponsible for the success of the Gallery, Paradise,Garage & others. I never attended the Loft so I can't guarantee that all thesetunes were played, but they appear on Loft combinations or are mentioned bycontemporary sources. Please check the catalogue numbers to ensure that you arebuying the mix you want to hear. The singles featured are all in vg/excellentvinyl condition, although do not have all the original inner sleeves etc. Seepictures.
