SLAUGHTER INC Featuring Tootie
Py-Co FS 248 ( pressed in England )
TRACK LISTING
Side A: Here I Am
Side B: Come On Baby
A 1976 pressing on the Py-Co label. Side A of the label has the words" To Princess Slaughter Inc". I am not sure if this was written by the group but in any case, this is a very rare Northern Soul 45. I got this nearly 15 years ago from an expat based here and who left. Ironically, I was more interested in his original LP copy of the "Danser's Inferno" and had to take all his stuff as a package! It is housed in a printed white sleeve(see second picture). I presume that its the generic company sleeve. As only oneVG++ copy was sold so far on Ebay (9 Nov 2009) at US$220, I suppose starting it at 99GBP with no reserve seems fair enough(see results of my grading below). It has no centre.
GRADING RESULTS:
The vinyl has one very light and barely visible line halfway down side 1. Side 2 has a scuff traversing the entire side but this was very light. Side 2 also has a dimple towards the end of the side which seems to be factory in origin. All these did not affect play. Tracking at 1.7g on a Linn LP12 with a Lyra Heliokon SL cartridge mounted on a Naim ARO tonearm, there were no audible clicks or pops on both sides of the playing surface. Even the run in grooves were silent. As I am rather loathe to grade anything as Mint as I feel that it could be system dependent, I will grade this as Near Mint as I did hear some light extraneous surface noise at the dead wax in the center(I usually dont apply too much cleaning fluid at that part as I am wary of soiling the labels). Without sounding immodest, I should state that when I sold a 1020GBP Bill Fay LP 2 years ago , the buyer did inform me that it was better than expected. A record( no pun intended) of that sale could be found in the Popsike pages.
How I Clean and Grade my Records
Cleaning: Cleaning is usually done on a Loricraft PRC 4 cleaning machine using the US made Walker Audio 3 step process.
Playback Equipment: Playback is through a Linn LP12 turntable/Armeggedon/Naim Aro tonearm/Linn Troika cartridge and through a brace of active Naim 250s/135s into Naim DBL speakers. For 45s I use a second Linn/Lingo/Aro/Lyra Helikon SL.
I use both Goldmine and Rare Record Price Guide grading system as a guide and came up with the following:
· Mint I only use this for sealed items. The record is virtually unplayed and is in a brand new condition. Cover is pristine. Up till now, I have never used this grading and, chances are, never will, due to my conservative nature in matters of record grading.
· Near Mint Very little or negligible flaws. Faint lines or very faint creasing on laminated covers visible under a strong light is acceptable but nothing serious. Records which show some signs of having been played such as very faint spindle marks are allowed but there should be no lessening in sound quality. .
· Excellent Item obviously played, though not often, and enjoyed with some slight noise. The record should be nice and shiny but may have a few light marks which should not intrude on play. Slight wear on cover is acceptable.
· Very Good Many more imperfections which are noticeable but not obtrusive. The record has been played several times but there should be no major deterioration in sound quality despite some noticeable surface marks and light scratches. Normal wear and tear or writings on the cover is acceptable but there should not be any major tears.
I do not offer any records below Very Good unless its extremely rare.
