Description

Baron Elmo Enterprises proudly presents a bloody vinyl slice of the hardest, heaviest metal to ever assault your eardrums, courtesy of rock demolition crew SLAYER: Reign in Blood, released in 1986 by Def Jam Recordings. Slayer had already firmly established their chops and credibility with the previous album, their debut Hell Awaits, but no one was prepared for the jaw-rattling sucker punch that this raging followup was poised to deliver… a howling vortex of balls-out YAAARRRGGHHH that got your adrenaline pumping like a .44 slug whisting past your face. Producer Rick Rubin (he who unleashed the Beastie Boys upon the world… and gave Johnny Cash's career a richly deserved boost) is Slayer's secret weapon here. Where most early Eighties metal albums mixed vocals and guitar way up front while tamping down the rhythm section, hip-hop maven Rubin demands more ooomph… punching the bass and drums up to eleven, thereby providing a rock-solid foundation for the sturm und drang of guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, who lay down slashing solos of paint-stripping intensity throughout. Dave Lombardo's drumbeats crack like thunder, pummeling your dome without mercy from start to finish. The then-controversial lyrics, thoughtfully included on the inner sleeve, might as well have been scrawled in gore on an abattoir wall (opening line "Auschwitz, the meaning of pain/The way that I want you to die"). Wouldn't recommend sharing this album with your parents, or easily unnerved younger siblings, but Reign in Blood is the ideal soundtrack for those moments when you feel like nothing so much as crushing bricks on your forehead. This title has been out of print on vinyl for at least fifteen years. The record shows slight wear but plays beautifully, while the cover is still in its plastic wrap and looks great except for a creased lower left hand corner and a small gouge on the spine.
