Disney Re-Invents Sleeping Beauty...
What a find for fans of Disney and animated music.
Here is a classy soundtrack recording from Disney's animated classic SLEEPING BEAUTY (1959).
It contains both songs AND musical score from the film
In the 1950s, Disney released their soundtracks on the Disneyland label. These early albums were true original soundtracks featuring both songs AND score (instrumental music) from the film. Disney found that the albums were mostly bought by children who only wanted to sing the songs, so in the early 1960s they re-issued the albums as "all the songs from" discs with only the songs (sometimes re-recorded by singers not in the film) and all the great instrumental music cut out. When Disney began releasing more "adult" musical albums, they released them on the Vista lable.
In the 1970s, Disney decided to re-brand SLEEPING BEAUTY. Instead of the usual romantic art of Aurora, Prince and forest creatures, they built a movie campaign based on Malifecent and the phrase "ablaze with wonder". It gave the film a more mature look. Along with posters and art, Disney re-issued the songs and score as a full blown soundtrack album in stereo under the Vista label.
> This is Vista Record STER-4036, with a 1970 copyright. It features the great art design of Malifecent ablaze, and a more sophisticated back cover.
This album comes from my personal collection of animation music. At one time it numbered over 300 records - lps, 45s, 78s, promos and more. I collected records for their audio play, not just jackets. The last time these were played, around the early 1990s, they sounded fine. I have not had a turntable in over a decade, so cannot currently vouch for the sound. These albums are sold as is
The vinyl is in good shape; but the jacket shows some signs of wear, including some creases and nicks.
The jacket would look fine displayed in home, office or studio.
