Description

This auction is for a very early 1966 pressing of the Small Faces' debut LP in Mono on the Decca label (red and unboxed) catalogue no. LK 4790.  It may well be a first pressing but the plethora of information on this has just confused the heck out of me, so I've just settled for "very early"!

The LP itself is in at least Very Good+ condition and plays very well indeed, with barely any hiss or crackle on the tracks. I'm not a record collector or a dealer so I'm just giving you my subjective view from looking at, and listening to the LP, which we have had in the family since 1966.

There are spindle marks on the labels on both sides, which I wouldn't have said were excessive, these marks should be visible in the photos. (There's also a label identifying ownership to "KATH" on the Side 1 label.)

The sleeve has, however, seen better times. It is still very much intact but has a fair amount of wear along the edges and the spine, some slight bending on three of the corners, and stains on the back (top left-ish) - in fact, generally, a little scruffy on the back.

The disc labels can be seen in the photos but the detail on the numbering / lettering is as follows:

Side 1 - Matrix is XARL-7217-5A  (XARL-7217 is also on the label, inverted above the catalogue no.).

Other numbering / lettering off from the Side 1 label include (approx.) at 9 o'clock a "2" over a "1", at 8 o'clock "3U" and at 7 o'clock an "A", at 3 o'clock some marks which may be a "U" and a "V" (but I'm not convinced) and at about 12 o'clock there looks like a "K7".

Side 2 - Matrix is XARL-7218-3A (the first parts are again inverted on the label). On this there seem to be "1"'s at both 9 and 3 o'clock and another "K7" at about 12 o'clock.

I have an idea what the Matrix numbers might mean (see my confusion above) but as for the others - frankly, I have no idea!

For the sake of completeness the actual music is as follows:-

Side 1:

1.     Shake (Cooke)
2.     Come On Children (Marriot; Jones; Winston; Lane)
3.     You Better Believe It (Lynch; Ragavoy)
4.     It's Too Late (Marriot; Jones; Winston; Lane)
5.     One Night Stand (Marriot; Lane)
6.     What'Cha Gonna Do About It (Samwell; Potter)

Side 2:

1.     Sorry She's Mine (Lynch)
2.     Own Up (Marriot; Lane)
3.     You Need Loving (Marriot; Lane)
4.     Don't Stop What You Are Doing (Marriot; Jones; Winston; Lane)
5.     E Too D (Marriot; Lane)
6.     Sha La La La Lee (Lynch; Shuman)

All the photos are of the actual LP.

Thank you very much for looking.
