Small Faces were an English Mod band formed in 1965 by Steve Marriott, Ronnie Lane, Kenney Jones, and Jimmy Winston (who was soon replaced by Ian McLagan). Heavily influenced by American Rhythm and blues, they later evolved into one of the UK's most successful psychedelic acts before disbanding in 1969.
Despite the fact that they were only together four years, Small Faces music output from the mid to late sixties remains amongst the most acclaimed British mod and psychedelic music of that era. Allmusic refers to them as "The best English band never to make it big in America." Small Faces were belatedly awarded the Ivor Novello Outstanding Contribution to British Music "Lifetime Achievement" award in 1996. .
Original First Press Classic Small Faces album on the very collectible IMMEDIATE label - a hard find these days!!!! The audio of this disc is truly stunning!!! I have heard first presses of this album a few times before, but none of them could match this absolute stunner!!!!
Vinyl: EX++!! Extremely hard to find this album nowadays. Beautiful deep glossy vinyl without any visible lines in plain daylight. Under an intense bright light a couple of wispy hairlines can be spotted. None of these affect the replay which is simply ASTOUNDING!!! I played it through all the way. I am glad to be able to report that the vinyl plays through all the way, side 1 and 2. A real credit to this heavy vinyl with high groove walls, PURE QUALITY!!!! The lightest of static can only be heard during the spoken word interludes on side 2. Of course, NO skips, NO jumps or clicks. The audio is topnotch!
This album is extremely scarce, most of these are now in major collections around the globe. This is the most sought after Small Faces album and the quality o the songs says all. How many will still survive to this day??? This is the real deal, the way it was first issued!!! As such this album is a very worthy upgrade!!!
I have played this in FULL> The replay is ASTOUNDING!!! These tracks ...... you can hear them a thousand times but they will never ever bore you.There are not any jumps or skips. There is not too much background noise at all!! Very remarkable for this 1968 vinyl!!! I played this on my Technics turntable with a Linn cartridge and through my very revealing B&W three way speakers!!!
Sleeve: VG+. Most of these sleeves have become detached as the card discs only join on a very small area. A tiny tear on one of the joints. Otherwise this sleeve is really spectacular WITHOUT any creases or writing. It will be hard to find this in better shape. The colours are still bright as on the day it was first issued 43 years ago.
