I've read online that Sonja is the sister of Lawrence Foster, a prize cellist (and car salesman) who was murdered at the age of 26 in 1981 by a man who was test driving a car from his lot. He had worked with Leonard Bernstein at a young age.
Here's more info I found online:
Sonja Foster is an acclaimed soloist and music educator. An alumna of the Curtis Institute and the Juilliard School where she studied with the legendary Ivan Galamian, Sonja has performed extensively across America in recital, with orchestra, on TV and in concert with her late brother, the world renowned concert cellist, Lawrence Foster. Formerly on faculty of Wheaton College, Wheaton Il. and Trinity College, Deerfield, Il., Sonja opened her private studio for very gifted violinists upon moving to Atlanta. She has developed young talent into international performing artists and professional musicians.

As an experienced concert artist, Sonja has a passion to help each student develop their highest musical potential in an atmosphere of nuture, encouragement, balance and beauty. Her teaching combines the techniques of highest levels of violin playing from the Franco-Belgium and Russian schools of violin. Sonja inspires students to be disciplined and only takes on the most serious students. She trains them to be performers, having many recitals for them. They win many competitions, are members of the local youth orchestras and are admitted to the best conservatories in America, many on scholarship.
