You are bidding on five double-sided 16-inch vinyl radio transcription discs containing five 30-minute programs in the DJ program series HOT OFF THE RECORD PRESS as broadcast to our troops overseas during the week of February 23 to February 27, 1953.
Fred Grimes is the host with Stan Freberg as guest DJ and commentator for the week.
#151 from Monday, February 23, 1953. Stan introduces and plays all his own records and provides an audio autobiography of his career. Selections: “John & Marsha”, “I’ve Got You Under My Skin”, “That’s My Boy”, “Rag Time Dan”, “Tele-vee-shun”, “Ba-Ba-Ball & Chain”, and “Try”. 30 minutes.
#152 from Tuesday, February 24, 1953. Stan again features and describes some of his own recordings including “World Is Waiting for the Sunshine” a satire on the music of Les Paul and Mary Ford. 30 minutes.
#153 from Wednesday, February 25, 1953. Stan introduces and plays “Mr. Mozart’s Turkey Trot-Or-Rondo Ala Turka”, “Pass the Udder Udder” as well as “My Old Flame” by Spike Jones, and continues with his own history of jazz. 30 minutes.
#154 from Thursday, February 26, 1953. Stan introduces and comments on records by Frank Sinatra, Mills Brothers, Dinah Shore, Doris Day & Johnny Ray, and others. 30 minutes.
#155 from Friday, February 27, 1953. Stan as DJ features “The Collector’s Edition”, and begins with “I Can’t Carry a tune” by Jerry Lewis, “Perpetual Motion” by Red Ingle Band, and others. 30 minutes.
The discs are in very good condition with very good to excellent sound. Program #153 has light grease pencil marks. Some labels have writing on them plus stamped broadcast dates.
These recordings are from the estate collection of a former radio broadcaster and producer who hosted his own nostalgia show and taught radio broadcasting while serving in the military.
