Description
An original 1968 mono 1st issue on the UK MGM label. Matrix 2G/2G. Please note that there is a yellow MGM label variation that was discontinued around the time of release which is possible to find, and this would be the technical very 1st press. What we have here is a "1st issue" which would have been purchased during the first two or three months of release. Note how the label design is the 'yin-yang' design and that the records speed "33" is mentioned in a large font - this is missing from labels just a year later. Also, note how this is a MONO pressing and bear in mind that by '69 mono had been pretty much phased out. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original G&L mono cover with 'patents pending'. And, note how the cover has the three flipbacks - this is distinctly a 60's manufactured cover. Also included is the original generic white inner sleeve with patent information. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) A lovely copy and has only seen light use. Under close inspection I could only make out a few very superficial marks each side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with one deviation. Intros and inbetweens are very nice and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. Bear in mind that this Lp is full of orchestral spacey echo sounds and only a relatively clean copy is going to stand half a chance of conveying the appropriate silence of SPACE! Whilst this copy is not perfectly silent it is, for the most part, very close. Just expect a touch of very low-level static in a couple of spots. The only deviation is in track 3 [Side 2]. In some of the quieter parts of this song you can occasionally make out a repetitive low-level tick/noise. This is very low-level and only features due to the low-key nature of these passages. But other than expect a very accomplished and clean rendition. This early mono heavy pressing does a fantastic job on the orchestral manoeuvres. Seriously,..it's awesome!
Cover (Ex) Ok, remember this is not the ubiquitous 70's version. This is the true Mono original with flipbacks - proper 60's version. And it's in very rude health. Lovely clean and shiny front with a bit of creasing in the bottom left corner. The rear has largely escaped the ageing process and the flipbacks are all secure and intact. Edge wear is very slight and the openings still sharp. The spine is 100% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Ex) No splits or markings. Very little ageing.
