Half speed mastering allows the cutting head twice as much time to render the groove.
This means more fine detail on playback (especially in the highs) and less waver on long
sustained notes. Impressive high frequency detail on percussion was noted during digitizing of "Wild
Mountain Honey."
I am the original owner of this LP. It has never been exposed to heat or tobacco smoke and was
always stored vertically in a specially designed record cabinet (Rackit) to prevent warpage.
Was cleaned on a VPI HW 16 with Audio Intelligent solutions and ultra-pure water rinse
(50X purer than distilled water) before my pre-sale sound check
Very sensitive play testing was performed straight off my Ayre P-5xe fully balanced phono preamp
over Sennheiser HD 600 headphones and thru a Schiit Audio Valhalla 2 tube headphone amp fitted
with Voskhod Soviet matched tubes (see last photo).
Track list
1: Space Intro, Fly Like An Eagle, Wild Mountain Honey, Serenade, Dance, Dance, Dance, Mercury Blues.
2: Take The Money And Run, Rock 'N Me, You Send Me, Blue Odyssey, Sweet Maree, The Window.
I never take "distant" photos or the so-prevalent type with the LP sticking halfway out of the jacket.
I take close-ups under photo lamps so you can see as much of what I describe in the grading.
Grading
Note: record grading by text characters is subjective and does not fully describe quality
levels. Please see photos and my detailed descriptions below.
Outer Jacket: VG (Very Good) There is a fair amount of shelf wear on the jacket front from
rubbing against the high points of the textured finish. These are the "white specks" you see in the
photos. There are less of these on the jacket rear. There is mild rubbing wear on all corners and bottom
edge. The upper right corner has the start of a seam split about 1/2" long
Vinyl: NM (Near Mint) After cleaning I examined the surfaces very closely. Both sides are really
beautiful as I could not find the slightest sleeving wear, rubbing traces, or any hairiness. The labels are
very clean as can be seen in the photos with no hole wear or "scribbles" around the holes from rubbing
against the turntable post. I next I played the beginning and end of all tracks and the silent grooves
between. Some tracks I played all the way thru as I was digitizing my favorites to 192k/24-bit WAV files.
The only time I heard a click each revolution was at the very beginning of S1T4 with 3 in a row at quickly
declining volume. Other clicks were at low levels and did not compete with the music. I did not need to
do batch processing on my WAV files for click removal because there were so few I could easily
remove them individually on a couple of files. The rest needed no noise reduction. From my listening
notes I was most impressed with the audio quality on S1T3, S1T6, S2T2,S2T5, and S2T6. My listening
notes describe "absolute liquidly lushness," "very crisp dynamics, and "a wide deep soundstage."
Packaging
Record will be placed outside the jacket to protect against seam splitting.
Inner cardboard sleeve protector and the warranty card are placed outside the jacket.
After cleaning I placed the record into a new genuine MFSL Original Master Sleeve protective sleeve
to keep the vinyl surface clean during shipping and ultimate buyer usage.
Outer jacket is contained in a new clear poly sleeve.
Sent in good quality record mailer with cardboard stiffeners.
