Very rare Shandar issue of a performance of Karlheinz Stockhausen's text-based piece Illimite from 1968's From The Seven Days. Warped, psychedelic and deeply disorientating, features sawing, slow droning violins, volcanic bubbles of brass, austere vocal recitations, radio broadcasts and sub-bass transmissions from outer space.“Stockhausen's text pieces Aus den Sieben Tagen (From the Seven Days; 1968) were intended to be played in a meditational context, though they are somewhat reminiscent in style to the Fluxus works of La Monte Young and Yoko Ono. (Stockhausen's texts, however, instruct the performer to engage in challenging “musical” activities as opposed to other kinds of performance events.) One of the instructions in Aufwärts (from Aus den Sieben Tagen) reads, “Play a vibration in the rhythm of the universe.” When a musician asked how he would know when he was playing in the rhythm of the universe, Stockhausen replied, ‘I will tell you.'”
This is one of the rarest Shandar records, the label's third release, and is often missing from Stockhausen discographies. Recorded 29/10/70.
