Description
Up for auction is the Syd Barrett debut solo LP “The Madcap Laughs”. This stereo LP was released in 1970 by Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd fame. David Gilmour replaced Syd Barrett in Pink Floyd and also produced some of the tracks (along with Roger Waters of Pink Floyd) on this release.
The catalog number of this release is SHVL 765. The vinyl record is in very excellent / near mint condition (I can not claim mint because it has been played once or twice). The gatefold cover is also in near mint condition…there is not a single flaw and I am the original owner.
This LP was manufactured in the UK. The matrix information (found in the runoff area of the record) on this LP shows: SHVL 765 A-2G. Those numbers are very significant as the matrix contains critical identification information. According to a foremost discography website concerning Pink Floyd, the matrix info can be broken down as follows: SHVL 765 is the master lacquer number (also the catalog number); the letter A signifies the side of the LP (side A or B); the number 2 signifies the mother number and the letter G signifies that this LP was pressed from the first stamper. Therefore, according to the matrix info, this LP was pressed from the 1st stamper.
A fantastic find for serious Barrett / Floyd fans. Bid with confidence when I tell you that this item (LP, gatefold cover and jacket) is absolutely in very excellent condition…as close to mint as an unsealed record can get. I am fanatical about record care.
I would be glad to answer any of your questions and explain to you where this info can be verified. Additional pics will be emailed upon request…no worries. Thanks very much and good luck.
Oh by the way…which one’s Pink?
