Up for sale is an insanely rare record Syl Johnson Is It Because I'm Black Twinight Records LPS1002 Stereo Original 1970 release!
One of the rarest and most sought after soul records of all time.
I bought this from an estate of a blues/jazz/soul collector...the owner had great taste and kept his records in VRP Protectors. I carefully cleaned this record (very little dust) and I played this record on my vintage turntable with a newer needle...the record has spindle marks and surface scratches but does not diminish the enjoyment of this record...some minor hisses and crackles but NO SKIPS and no egregious noises to deter listening pleasure. The cover is stunning with minor ring wear on back, corner rubs, writing of name on back but the cover is mostly shiny and quite beautiful! Listening to the record, I was amazed it was recorded back in 1969, there are pieces (samples) from this album you hear in modern Hip Hop and Rap.
I am not an expert in grading but I would conservatively grade the cover a VG++ and the Lp a VG+
A THRASHED copy that was NOT playgraded sold for $200 on ebay recently and other auctions have sold for nearly $600 for similar or slightly-less nice than my condition record.
I am open to offers as I'm a bit rusty with assessing what's hot and collectable and what isn't these days.
