Some words on this issue: V.A./ ORCHESTRAL SPACE: “Orchestral Space at Nissei Theatre 1966 – Vol. 1” (Victor Records – SJV-1501) very rare original 1966 1st issue copy, a cornerstone in Japan’s recorded electronic music and avant-garde history. Tracks consists out of compositions by Takemitsu Toru “ARC for Piano and Orchestra”; Takahashi Yuji “Chromamorphe II for Piano”, Ichiyanagi Toshi “Life Music for Various Modulators, Magnetic Tape and Orchestra” and Yuasa Joji “Interpenetration for 2 Flutes”. All compositions were recorded at the modern music festival “Orchestral Space ‘66” which took place at the Nissei Theatre on may 1st, 2nd and 4th, 1966. The whole was designed and produced by Takemitsu Toru and Ichiyanagi Toshi both leading composers of modern and avant-garde music in Japan. Iannis Xenakis attended the concert also. The music is astonishing and gives a glimpse at some avant-garde developments that were taking place in Japan of the time. Especially the compositions by Takemitsu, Ichiyanagi and Yuasa are amazing in their execution and originality, successfully blending orchestral sounds with wild electronic elements. This record is the 1st and sole original pressing that came out in that same year 1966, both jacket and record are top notch. Essential slice of Japan’s avant-garde in action.

Our grading scale: Mint/ Near Mint/ Excellent/ VG++/. We don’t sell anything below VG++. VG++ grade is basically that the record has some scuffs and has wear. Excellent: record has hardly no visible defects and is preserved with care and attention, the condition most collectors take pride in to file away. Near Mint: a dash below mint, just perfect. Mint: like new.
