The musical transition that seemed to have just begun with Fear of Music came to fruition on Talking Heads' fourth album, Remain in Light. "I Zimbra" and "Life During Wartime" from the earlier album served as the blueprints for a disc on which the group explored African polyrhythms on a series of driving groove tracks, over which David Byrne chanted and sang his typically disconnected lyrics. Remain in Light had more words than any previous Heads record, but they counted for less than ever in the sweep of the music. The album's single, "Once in a Lifetime," flopped upon release, but over the years it became an audience favorite due to a striking video, its inclusion in the band's 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense, and its second single release (in the live version) because of its use in the 1986 movie Down and Out in Beverly Hills, when it became a minor chart entry. Byrne sounded typically uncomfortable in the verses ("And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife/And you may ask yourself, well, how did I get here?"), which were undercut by the reassuring chorus ("Letting the days go by"). Even without a single, Remain in Light was a hit, indicating that Talking Heads were connecting with an audience ready to follow their musical evolution, and the album was so inventive and influential, it was no wonder. As it turned out, however, it marked the end of one aspect of the group's development and was their last new music for three years.

Reflecting the historical importance of this album, as well as its popular and critical acclaim, The Rolling Stones Magazine selected this album as on of the top-200 Rock albums of all time in their recent global poll.

Finally, If this is of any relevance (and we do not claim that it is) 'Remain in Light' is an important  entry in our personal top-50 favorite album list. Other entries- in no particular order- include Otis Redding, Love, Sam Cooke, Jimi Hendrix, Velvet Underground, Stooges,  Bob Marley & The Wailers, Frank Zappa ,  Muddy Waters and others). Adrian Belew's two-part guitar solo on 'The Great Curve' is easily one of ten greatest lead guitar solos in the entire history of Rock music and one of the 10 Wonders of the World.  What the Man does with his guitar is a pure dyonisian ritual.

(a)         WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++. A few light abrasions  ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly  insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)         The record comes in its original, custom, inner sleeve, which is UNIQUE to this album.

(c)         The album comes with it's original insert / lyrics sheet

(d)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(e)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-       Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-       Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-       Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the seams (nothing significant)

-       Visible shelf wear noted on the seams

-       Cover has one corner slightly dinged (nothing significant)
