Unquestionably one of Reiner's most famous performances, the Zarathustra sessions in 1954 had been hailed as the birth of high-end stereo. Fact is, though, even Reiner, who everyone agreed was THE interpreter of Strauss, believed he could do better. And so a monstrous Mohr/Layton session was begun in 1962 to capture an audio prize beyond compare.
This is the re-mastered MFSL of that performance, specially plated and pressed on high-definition vinyl by Victor in Japan. To say that it is a blockbuster is simply not enough. It blows doors down with its capture of space, low-end, and the panoramic sweep of the 109-man orchestra.
This copy’s cover is without major fault; MoFi heavy platter is in near-mint playing condition.
A classic of extraordinary proportion, in its best available pressing.
