Taste : On The Boards A1/B1 1st Press

This first pressing plays to a very high standard with only minimal interference as detailed below.  The vast majority plays with superb clarity and as you can tell from my grading the actual audio is so deep and rich, it sounds fantastic!  The vinyl is visually very impressive with only some light hairlines.

The cover is in great condition with hardly any wear and the original inner is also in excellent order.

Visual grading

The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a lovely glossy sheen with no 'bag' rash, marks or scratches.  There are some faint hairlines with only a couple that are a little more obvious but they have no affect on the audio.  The orange Polydor labels have only a little spindle wear but for some reason have 9857 written above the spindle hole on both sides.

Play grading

The intro on 'What's Going On' plays with superb audio for the vast majority.  The opening vocal section plays with perfect clarity and Gallagher's first classic solo has no interference aside from just one very light tick.  The audio so far plays with great depth and the deep bass adds so much to the overall sound.  There are two dull pops just before the final vocal so overall I will grade this opening classic as Ex+

'Railway And Gun' plays with stunning clarity on the intro and continues in the same way with no intrusion.  Each note is just so clean and precise and this easily deserves a Mint- grade.

'It's Happened Before, It'll Happen Again' then plays with exceptional quality and again the depth of the audio is so impressive.  A big 'bluesy' number there is a genuine warmth to the sound and it basically plays as well as it did when first released over 50 years ago.  Another Mint- track.

The quiet intro on 'If The Day Was Any Longer' is flawless and the opening vocal is just as good.  From start to finish this plays with impeccable clarity and 'as new' is a correct description.  Mint

The intro on 'Morning Sun' plays with sublime precision and I heard just one mega light just after the first vocal.  It then plays with great clarity and depth and again I love the production on this record, the playback is so deep and strong.  There is one light click near the end so I will grade as Near Mint but overall it is a stunning rendition.

'Eat My Words' on S2 plays with superb resonance and depth from the get go.  Superb intro!  The opening vocal has only a couple of dust ticks and thereafter plays as you would want it to with tremendous power and clarity.  There are a couple of minor static ticks but you expect this on vinyl.  I will however grade as Near Mint just to be a little cautious.

'On The Boards' plays with wonderful clarity from the outset.  The first vocal is equally as good and the next instrumental passage has just one very light click but no other 'background', the playback is so clean.  It continues to play with sensational clarity and there is literally no interference.  A quiet number and yet the sonic quality is 'as new' without a doubt.  I will grade as Near Mint but only because of that one minor click, the rest is faultless.

'If I Don't Sing I'll Cry' plays with superb power and depth from start to finish with...no interference.  One light tick near the end that is all and Mint- is fair.

The quiet intro on 'See Here' plays perfectly and it progresses in much the same way.  There are a couple of ticks and a minimal amount of barely audible static but Near Mint is easily deserved.

The strong intro on 'I'll Remember' plays so clearly and from then on plays with great clarity and definition for a final track.  There is no distortion, no interference at all, and ends the album in fine style with Mint- audio.

In summary this first pressing plays with sublime quality with barely any intrusion and as always I have listened to every second so as to provide a 'complete' grade.  Yes there are a two quiet dull pops and a couple of light clicks but the rest of the album can hardly be faulted, it really does plays with exceptional clarity and warmth.  Aside from the clarity what really stands out is the sheer depth of the audio and it certainly has not been overplayed.  Very impressive.

The Cover & Inner Sleeve

The textured cover is in lovely condition with barely any wear.  The edges have hardly any rubbing and the thin pinched spine is in perfect shape and of course 100% legible.  The corners are also in fantastic condition with next to no wear and the opening edge has no handling wear either.  The front cover is unmarked and the back cover is almost as good with just one small scuff area in the top left corner.  A fine excellent example overall.

The original 'Plastic Bags...' inner (dated 0670) is in excellent condition with only light creasing and as per the labels does have 9857 written on both sides for some reason.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers
