TEA & SYMPHONY - An Asylum For The Musically Insane ORIG Harvest LP SHVL 761 (UK, Stereo, 1969)
Happy to present the 1969 debut from these strange Birmingham folkies - an album which rewards the listener more with each play, and quite a rare piece these days as Harvest collectors refuse to offer any decent copies.
Well this is a very decent copy indeed and is an original 1st press SHVL 761 as evidenced by the laminated gatefold sleeve, A-3U/B-3U matrices and no EMI boxed logo on the green Harvest labels.
The original gatefold laminated sleeve is in well above average EX- (Excellent Minus) condition. It is pleasingly solid, flat, fresh and retaining full colour. The only defects away from near mint are as follows: there is a circular price sticker (£80 1969) on the rear top left corner (no doubt removable with the correct technique), 2/3 light thumb creases to the front and rear, moderate corner wear to all four corners, a few small creases emanating from the spine, a barely visible dried sticker residue to the front top right and above average feathering to the opening edges (see photo). BUT THAT’S IT! Other than these there is NO rips, splits, tears, writing, appreciable edge wear, no real ring impression, no fading of the glorious colour, a generally strong and well defined spine and NO heavy creasing. THIS WILL NO DOUBT SIT PROUDLY IN A TOP GRADE COLLECTION AS IT HAS IN MINE!
The NO EMI boxed logo lime green labels are clean and are a beautiful pair with no writing, stickers, residue, dirt or foxing. Spindle traces are virtually invisible, maybe 1 or 2 per side. Superb.
The medium weight vinyl is a real top example. It still has near to full shine (even after 40 years!) and shows only 2 small isolated marks - the only thing detracting from near mint. There are NO hairlines, deep scratches, embedded dirt, dust pockets or scrapes. Visually looks a true EX- (Excellent Minus) and would be higher but for one tiny finger scuff to 1st track on one side and a tiny patch of scuffing to the 1st track on the other. Other than these(and they are SMALL marks!) it really looks completely clean and close to Mint! IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO and plays very clearly with minimum surface. There’s the occasional light tick, but few and far between and never over the delicate music. Only one track, S2/T1 are there a handful of audible ticks, but nothing really to spoil your overall enjoyment of this rare classic.
