TELECTU

Camerata Elettronica 2-LP

  • Original Edition
  • Label              :Ama Romanta / Portugal
  • Condition        :ex-/mint (cover/records)

Mega rare original pressing on vinyl on the legendary small independant portuguese label Ama Romanta(that released also records from Toze Ferreira & Nuno Canavarro) The sound of Telectu is described as creation of electro-acoustic sound landscapes; intuition of polystylistic interlacing, minimalistic syntagmas and vivacious outbursts; concretism and oneiric imagery. This is an album dedicated to "musica mimetica" experiments prepared on computer with references to dada-Andy Warhol, Marcel Duchamp, etc. Presented at the Biennal of Barcelona. Again: extremely rare, don't let it get away!!

Telectu is a duet formed by Jorge Lima Barreto and Vítor Rua. Since 1982 this group has developed and introduced different musical typologies in Portugal: art rock, minimalism, live electronics, multimedia, acousmatic and concrete, and have linked their art to performance, video and installation. They have worked and recorded with various exponents of contemporary improvisation, including, among others, Elliott Sharp, Chris Cutler, Jac Berrocal, Louis Sclavis, Jean Sarbib, Paul Lytton, Evan Parker, Carlos Zíngaro, Tim Hodgkinson, Eddie Prévost, Daniel Kientzy and Sunny Murray.

Telectu has performed and recorded at the forefront of Portuguese music and at important international gatherings, including Beijing (CCTV), Paris (Pompidou Centre, Radio France), Moscow (Lenine Auditorium, Mali Theatre), New York (Knitting Factory), Spain (Granada, Madrid, Vigo, Barcelona), Hong Kong (Jazz Club), Macao (Casa Garden), Havana (Teatro Nacionale), Romania (National Auditorium) and Vienna (WUK Theatre). Telectu are considered amongst the most important portuguese artists together with Nuno Canavarro, Filipe Pires, Anar Band and Rafael Toral, Jorge Peixinho, Nuno Rebelo and Carlos Zingaro, Rene Bertholo, No Noise Reduction, David Maranha. Their instrumental and aesthetic heterodoxy (prepared piano a nd guitar, piano string action, scratch and noise, instrumental pluridisciplinarity, percussion, digital controllers, sampler, instrumental connections, digital apparatus, etc.) are co-ordinated by a spontaneous energy, ad-lib, real-time, fractal; their records are documents that assert the duet as one of the most important groups of new improvised music.

JORGE LIMA BARRETO began his career in the late 1960's with a series of interventions that changed the face of Portuguese experimental music and jazz. In the 70's he went on to the group Anarband, and he made a record with the jazz musician Saheb Sarbib. In 1975, together with Carlos Zíngaro, he created a movement called Conceptual Jazz. He was awarded a PhD in art history in 1973, has given conferences all over the world and has written several books about different musical typologies, like minimalism, jazz, rock, dance, experimental and multimedia. He also runs the radio program Musonautas in Portugal.

VITOR RUA began his career in the late 1970's with a series of interventions that changed the face of Portuguese pop/rock. In 1987, in an act of autodidactic determination, he devoted himself to the study of contemporary musical notation. His work is characterised by a variegated, embryonic post-modernism and an empiricist rejection of cultural confines, and reflects a transition from structured improvisation to strict composition. In the course of his work as an improviser, he has played with leading figures in the world of improvisation. As a composer his music has been played in Bucharest, Romania (Musique Cérèale, 97, soprano saxophone by Daniel Kientzy), in Granada, Spain (Truffle Sax, 98, bass saxophone and tape by Daniel Kientzy), Perpignan, France (Cyberpunk, 98, bass saxophone by Daniel Kientzy), Venice, Italy (Cyberpunk, 98, by Daniel Kientzy), Lisbon, Portugal (Gula, 98, soprano and baritone saxophone and tape by Daniel Kientzy), York, UK (Duplicator, 99, 2 alto recorders and tape by Ensemble QTR: Peter Bowman and Katherina Bennetts).
