Ten Years After : Sssshh 3L/2L 1st Stereo Press

This is another first pressing I am selling that plays with imperious quality from start to finish.  There is just no interference and the clarity, depth and power of the audio is impressive to say the least.  This is a FINAL UPGRADE time-warp classic i.e. no need to buy another as you could not improve on the sound quality we have here.  The vinyl is also visually stunning and has only very minimal spindle wear.  It has only been lightly played over the last 50+ years.

The laminated gatefold is in lovely condition with only minimal shelf wear and as this is a genuine first press it has the 'indicator hole' on the back cover.  The original blue stereo inner is in superb order.

Visual grading

The vinyl is in beautiful condition and still has that immaculate jet-black glossy look of a new vinyl.  There are no marks or scratches and I could only locate 3/4 very faint hairlines that are extremely difficult to find!  The run out grooves are immaculate and the JT tax stamp can clearly be seen on both sides.  The red/white Deram labels are near perfect with no marking and only very minimal spindle wear.

Play grading  

The 'intro' on 'Bad Scene' plays perfectly with no 'background' and as the rhythm section comes in the audio is faultless.  Lee's vocal are 'clean' and his mid solo is so strong and powerful.  It is as good as it would have been back in '69!  This is a stunning Mint version.  It has to be turned up to max and there is no distortion either.

'Two Time Mama' is of the same standard with no 'background' at all.  The playback is again 'shop fresh' and even the fade out 'note' has not so much as a dust tick.  This also deserves a Mint grade.

The deep intro on 'Stoned Woman' is 'as new' and it continues to play with impeccable clarity and depth for the remainder.  The audio is again so deep and strong and has certainly lost none of its original sonic quality.  Mint

The 'heavy' bass intro on 'Good Morning Little Schoolgirl' plays with perfect precision.  From start to finish there is literally no intrusion on the audio and the clarity and definition of the music is outstanding.  As this is such a 'clean' vinyl you can hear each note and every subtle nuance so clearly and I cannot stress enough just how well it plays!  The long instrumental is STUNNING!  So reliant on that classic bass line but boy does it sound good!  The final vocal has no interference and the percussive finale has never blasted out of the speakers in a more dynamic way!  I am confident in grading this as Mint as I honestly believe it could not play any better.

The quiet intro on 'If You Should Love Me' is close to perfect with only one light static tick and from then on plays with wonderful clarity and depth.  As it builds there is no decrease in quality - no ticks, clicks or pops and no underlying static either.  A stunning Mint- version with another fade out that has no 'background'.

The acoustic intro on 'I Don't Know That You Don't Know My Name' again plays with great clarity and it continues to impress with only a couple of barely audible dust ticks.  Mint

'The Stomp' plays to a standard that again shows just how well this record has been cared for.  There are no negatives - no groove wear so the original sonic quality is retained.  There are quite simply no negatives and Mint is very much deserved.

Lee's intro on 'I Woke Up This Morning' is flawless and his first vocal is just as good.  It is of course such a strong bluesy number and the guitar work here cannot be underestimated.  It is so powerful and there is no inner groove distortion at all despite it being the final track on the side.  Every section is so powerful and once again the sheer quality of the music takes centre stage.  Even the 'high octane' final few seconds plays with stunning quality.  A sublime Mint end to this fine album.

In summary this first pressing plays with a clarity, depth and power that could not be any more impressive.  There is no interference at all the sonic quality is equal to that of an un-played record.  It certainly hasn't been played that much judging by the visual and audio quality and the minimal spindle wear.  You do find 60s/70s records that have been very well preserved but you will still often find one or two minor 'faults'.  No faults here and it is a FINAL UPGRADE album for sure.

The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve

The laminated gatefold is in superb condition with very little wear.  The edges have no rubbing and the wide spine is close to perfect also.  All corners are in great order with no real wear and the opening edges have only minimal handling wear.  The front cover is very clean indeed with only one small 'black' mark, 3/4 very faint laminate creases and a handful of minor creases around the edges that you always see.  The back cover (with the indicator hole) is similarly in superb condition with only a couple of minor creases next to the spine.  The inside of the gatefold has one small 'tear' mark near the top of each panel but again this is a common fault where the two panels 'stick' together.  The inner spine has some light creasing but overall this is a fine example of this cover.

The original poly-lined Stereo inner is one of the 'cleanest' I have seen and has no side splits or tears and hardly any creasing or age related fading.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers
