The first Ten Years After album was not a success and sold in such low numbers that original pressings of this record are exceptionally scarce indeed. It was ‘Woodstock’ in 1969 that broke the band to a large audience but by then they were already evolving into a Blues-Rock monster. This is the record that the 60s Blues-boom purists are after because it captures them when the music, not the showmanship, was still in charge!

VINYL CONDITION

The overall quality of this first pressing album is absolutely sensational. It just has to grade as an Excellent if not something better. The album has a nice clean appearance with a pure deep gloss, and a close inspection under a strong light only reveals a few of the lightest paper scuffs and absolutely no serious blemishes. The labels are unmarked with general spindle wear that suggests the album has been played a little bit but certainly not over-used or abused. Overall, this is a shining example of a really well cared for record.

SOUND

The whole album plays with a deep clear sound that is hard and powerful when necessary and crystal clear during the quieter moments. There is no skipping or sticking anywhere and there is nothing other than the very occasional pop or click and the lightest moments of unobtrusive surface noise that never detracts from or spoils your enjoyment of the music.

COVER CONDITION

This is a first issue cover that displays only a small amount of discolouring developed over the years. It still grades as a strong Very Good. All the edges are still stuck down, and the entire cover is fully intact without any major damage. There are, however, some signs of age and use which generally manifest themselves as creases. The front and rear cover have some general laminate creases around all the edges. On the front and back, the worst of these laminate creases is down the spine, but it isn't as bad as this makes it sound, and all the text down the spine is still completely legible. The top and bottom edges display a little light rubbing effect but nothing severe and they are basically still smooth. The front and rear sleeves display the earliest stages of ring-wear although this has not developed into an unsightly scuff mark. So in summary, a cover that has stayed well clear of abuse, but the fact that this has clearly been a well handled album over the years is starting to show with some general signs of wear.

I do not profit on packaging. All records are sent in professional mailers with stiffeners and polythene sleeves in which the disc will be removed from the sleeve for extra protection. I take great care with my packaging and want to make sure the records arrive in the same condition they left me. The recorded option is now compulsory because too many buyers claim their items do not arrive when they are sent without any form of tracking, so with recorded packages we all know exactly what’s going on with the delivery and records no longer disappear down a big postal service black hole!
