Description
The Franklin Mint Record Society 'THE 100 GREATEST RECORDINGS OF ALL TIME'
This collection, which comprises 180 performances by over 100 leading artists and orchestras of the 20th Century, comes in fifty finely-bound hardcover cases (blue, green, burgundy, brown and tan), with gold filigree-style lettering on the front covers and spines.
Each case contains two 33 rpm LP records pressed
on heavyweight red virgin vinyl and
enclosed in protective moulded parchment sleeves. Each case also contains biographies, photographs, and detailed information about the music, composer, artist, and conductor.
This collection includes all the original documentation and inserts as well as cross-referencing indexes.
This set was produced
using recordings of major-label classical musicians including the NBC Symphony under Arturo Toscanini, the Philadelphia Orchestra under Eugene Ormandy and the New York Philharmonic under Leonard Bernstein.
The library was first announced on the 100th anniversary of Thomas Edison’s invention of the phonograph. Each recorded treasure was pressed with a special vinyl formulation that enabled a clear, quiet playing surface on a more rigid LP disk. Every record was pressed in an atmosphere controlled “clean room.”
There are 50 library cases. Each library case houses two proof-quality long playing records, with each record resting, fully protected, within its own dust free compartment. The record is firmly supported within the closed compartment in such a way that the grooved playing surface never touches any part of the case. Each library case includes a specially written and illustrated commentary, by a respected music expert. The composers and their works are discussed in detail, and background information is provided on the orchestras, conductors, ensembles, and featured soloists.
This is a truly unsurpassed private library of recorded music.
I listened to approximately 20 of the records on a DENON DP-500M turntable and they sound great!
The collection has been stored vertically in a wall unit for over thirty years. If you are a vinyl audiophile, you won’t find a more impressive collection.
Grading:
VINYL WEIGHT: 160 grams50 HARDCOVER CASES: NM- in overall beautiful condition with very light wear to a few of the cases' corners/edges.
100 VINYL RECORDS (VISUAL): MINT- with full gloss and shine! I did visually inspect all 100 records and did not find a black sheep in the flock.
LABELS: NM to MINT virtually no wear at all, no spindle marks or other defects to most of the records. A few of the records... and I mean a few... do have very tiny specs on the gold labels which appear to be a factory flaw.
100 VINYL RECORDS (AUDIO): VG+ to MINT- The records I did play sound amazing with faint 'tics' here and there but no skips or warped records or other defects. If you would like me to grade a specific record from this collection then please email.
This collection is guaranteed to provide a thoroughly enjoyable listening experience! Actual Item Photos

Record Grading:
Mint (M): New condition.
Near Mint (NM): Nearly perfect, a record with no obvious signs of wear, a perfect sleeve with no more than the most minor defects and signs of slight handling.
Very Good Plus (VG+): A very good plus record will show signs that it was played, but was taken good care of by the previous owner. Record surface may show slight signs of wear or minor scuffs that do not affect play. Picture sleeves may have slight wear, lightly turned up corners.
Very Good (VG): A very good record will show groove wear and may have a few vinyl imperfections which will affect the sound. Picture sleeves will show slightly more wear with perhaps a frayed top edge, ring wear or seam breakdown.
Good (G) / Good Plus (G+): A good record will show significant wear and /or scratches, but will play through without skipping. It will have considerable surface noise. Picture sleeves may have seam splits @ bottom & spines, tape, writing, ring wear, stickers and other defects that will start to overwhelm the item. A good or good plus item is usually acquired to fill a hole in a collection until a better copy comes along.
