Description

Recently listed by Record Collector as one of the rarest 45's ever, The Addicted Man has a fascinating history: it was scheduled for release on 6th January 1967 and it was included in the BBC TV programme Juke Box Jury the week before. The jury voted it a resounding Miss and were appalled at the druggy lyrics and title. Fearing bad publicity Parlophone cancelled the release and the Game continued their spiral into obscurity.

Several demos had already been distributed of course and just a few of these survive today. So the incredible rarity of this record is the chief reason for its being sought by serious collectors all over the world.

Another reason is the amazing sound. This bravura psych performance features some incredible guitar riffs smacking of the Who and the Creation - chunky power chords, loads of feedback and heavy bass.

Changing hands for £1,000 or more, the few copies of this record are really desirable and rarely come on the market so I am offering this unique disc for 10 days.

It is part of a recently-discovered cache of demos, acetates and other records from the BBC. Could this have been THE disc which David Jacobs and chums voted a miss? Who knows.

What is certain is that this is a very rare chance to acquire a little piece of 60's pop history.

As may be seen from previous feedback I try to grade as accurately as possible and this I would class as Excellent Plus. The label is fresh and pristine, bearing the release date 6.1.67, and has just a couple of very light spindle marks and a tiny - about 1/8"- surface nick in the label under the title (see photo). The vinyl itself is in beautiful condition with a couple of light 'paper' marks on the surface. I would guess that this has only been played a few times - and not at all in the past thirty years.

All in all a very desirable piece. Serious bidders only please - I am happy to accept PayPal and will ship International Signed-For at the buyer's expense.

Happy bidding!
