Description
THE AMBOY DUKES : MIGRATION
Their classic third lp ~ Issued in 1968 on Mainstream
LP grades Near Mint minus ~ Mainstream S/6118 ~ Stereo ~ First Issue 1968 ~ Cover grades EXcellent
Record sight grades NM- with very few signs of actual play or wear
One odd-shaped, light surface mark on Side Two should not affect play
Original Cover grades Excellent with slight ring wear ~ There is a tiny [really tiny] hole punched in the extreme upper left hand corner of the front cover ~ Seams & spine show minor wear but remain basically intact with slight flaking (mostly on the bottom seam) ~ There is the beginning of a 1 inch split at the far right corner of bottom seam (at opening edge) ~ Back cover remains fairly white but shows slight ring wear ~ Corners show minor wear (flaking) ~ Classic front cover photo still looks great (see scan)
The blue & black Mainstream labels are very sharp with no spindle marks, writing, stamps etc.
Here are some well-written [edited] notes about the MIGRATION lp :
"The most prominent feature of Migration... is the lack of a spaced-out follow-up to the group's biggest hit, "Journey to the Center of Your Mind." Perhaps "terrible" Ted Nugent was starting to win the drug war that was beginning to wage within the band, a war that would ultimately claim more than a few key lineup casualties. No matter the reason, Migration ~ with it's less opaque drug references and general grooviness ~ was given a cool reception at record stores as listeners perhaps became slightly confused about the Michigan band's intentions while pondering Nugent's relatively eclectic musical approach. Case in point: the spot-on version of Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers' "I'm Not a Juvenile Delinquent." Besides this bizarre but effective cover, other highlights include the instrumental opener "Migration" and one of Nugent's all-time favorite songs, "Good Natured Emma." More ambitious than the group's huge-selling effort from the year before, Migration might be the better of the two discs, if not the best of the Amboy Dukes' career." ~ AMG

The Bear Sez : Here is a nice first issue stereo copy of MIGRATION the last true album by Michigan rock & rollers THE AMBOY DUKES. This lightly promoted lp was first issued on the Mainstream label back in late 1968. The heavy, shiny black vinyl grades Near Mint minus & looks like-new except for an odd light surface mark near the end of Side Two. This strictly-cosmetic blemish may be a pressing error. It does not affect play. The cover remains in Excellent shape. Don't snooze on this rockin' psychedelic gem pinched from The Bear's personal stash. All Music Guide picks this title as the group's best effort. Future Cactus vocalist Rusty Day has joined as the Amboys' new lead singer. The song "Migration" is a tasty six minute instrumental with lots of guitar. Dig The Nuge in all his late-60's glory [before his heavier days.] Get locked & Loaded !!
