Description

THE BEATLES - 1962-1966 UK Red Album, Limited Red Vinyl (1978) - 2LP - Apple Records PCSP 717
I bought this for my personal collection circa 1980.  I kept it stored continuously in an outer plastic sleeve.  The vinyl was never played (until just now when I tested a few tracks for condition.)
Per Discogs, this is the "Orlake Pressing" version of this release.
The Vinyl Matrix / Runouts:  Side 1:  YEX 905 + PCS + 7171 + A
Side 2:  YEX 906 + PCS + 7171 + B Side 3:  YEX 907 + PCS + 7172 + C Side 4:  YEX 908    PCS + 7172 + D
KNOWN ISSUES:

  • The outer cover has a seam split at the top of the front edge.  There are also a few edge and corner creases.
  • There is a manufacturing misprint/mistake with one of the inner paper sleeves.  The sleeves contain the lyrics to the songs on the two LPs.  However, the sleeve for the second LP has the incorrect songs and lyrics for Side 3 (songs "Help! through "Norwegian Wood.")  Instead, the sleeve has a duplicate of the songs from Side 2 ("A Hard Day's Night" through "Yesterday.")  The opposite side of that sleeve correctly has the songs for Side 4.
  • There is a manufacturing defect with the label for Side 3.  It was applied off-center from the center hole and some of the label around the center hole is missing.  (It was this way when purchased new as I didn't handle these records other than to look at them once or twice.)
  • A close examination of the records show a few smudge and light scratch marks, mainly at the outer edge or over tracks one of each side.  (See a few examples in the photos.)  I played the first track on each side to check.  (The only time I played these records.)  I did not hear any impact to the music to my ears.  I noticed a few pops/clicks in the silent areas before or between tracks.  These marks either happened during the manufacturing process or during the limited handling I may have done with them about 45 years ago.  They were never played.  I had a regular US release of this album that I played back in the day when desired.
Please look at the attached photos to see the issues as noted above and for general condition.
I rate the cover jacket as Very Good+ overall.  Other than the issues noted above, it has good gloss and looks very fine.  It was kept in a plastic outer sleeve and stored for about 45 years.
The paper sleeves look excellent, other than the misprint as noted above.
The Vinyl LPs had never been played, until a few tracks just now as I mentioned to check condition.  There are the issues as noted above.
I will put a new outer plastic sleeve of the album cover and I will place the vinyl LPs in new clear inner sleeves and include the original paper sleeves also when shipping.
Please see the photos.  I am not a professional grader.  I am using my best judgement per the Goldmine grading standards.
I will take extra care with packing and shipment.  I will pack the LPs outside of the gatefold jacket to avoid any possible seam damage during shipment.  I will pack securely and ship in a Whiplash LP mailer.
