Description

For the most discerning of Beatles collectors!

THIS BEATLES 3rd STATE BUTCHER COVER, RIAA #3, Scranton, PA, 1966 mono (T-2553) version of the Yesterday and Today album cover, is in near mint condition, but what makes this album so special is the quality of the peel.

The “Trunk” cover was removed from the original “Butcher” cover completely intact and, as a result, the Butcher cover is near perfect – NO marks, tears, writing, seam splits, ring wear or other forms of damage. Please look at the detailed images of the cover, the edges and the spine of the album. These detail photos provide the evidence of AN ALL BUT PERFECT PEEL.

What you are bidding on, is one of the best examples of a Yesterday and Today 3rd state Butcher cover, the intact Trunk cover that was peeled from the Butcher cover, the original vinyl on the Capitol “rainbow” label and the original orange Capital 66 inner sleeve. To add to the overall impact of this purchase, we are also including the stereo version of the Trunk cover (ST-2553) and a copy of the Capital Records Butcher recall letter to retailers.

So, with this bid, you will receive all three versions of the Yesterday and Today cover – The original “Butcher Cover”, the paste over “Trunk Cover” and the traditional printed “Trunk Cover” album.

The Story behind the collector and this album:

The owner began collecting albums at age 11. His father would drive him to his first job at age 15 so he could buy a quality sound system for his music. Over the years, he compiled over 2,000 albums. One of his favorite sources for original 60’s albums were garage sales. This “Butcher” album was purchased at a garage sale.

When he returned home, the owner separated the Trunk paste-over cover from the original Butcher cover while his family watched. The process would slowly reveal the legendary cover. That was over 40 years ago and this album has remained the crown jewel of his lifelong collection.

Since it was purchased from a family at a garage sale (not a store or business) it is likely it had only two owners since the day it was created, and is likely the reason for it’s condition today.

For those who are seeking the very best version of this 3rd state butcher cover, this album is for you.

Feel free to ask questions. We want the final owner to be completely happy with their purchase. The albums will be packed in a premium record mailer with plastic sleeves for all covers and original record sleeve, a new white paper sleeve for the vinyl and then packaged professionally in a padded box for extra protection. Buyer must pay insurance covering full amount of final bid. Item will be shipped Priority USPS.

Butcher cover - MINT CONDITION

Overall album cover – NEAR MINT

Vinyl – GOOD+

Statement: This album, like many decades-old records, may have surface wear that is visible in bright light. Unlike scratches and other forms of damage to the vinyl, this surface wear should not affect the performance of the record. Unless noted, the appearance should not affect the play.

The collection

This record is part of a lifelong collection that began over 50 years ago. The records came from many sources and have been stored on shelves in a safe, smoke free environment for decades. The collection began with a gift from my grandfather “Sugar Sugar by the Archies” when I was 10 years old. That led to a lifelong hobby of collecting music that grew to 2,000 albums including a “third state” butcher cover of the Beatles, Yesterday and Today album with a pristine peel.

The primary collections are The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kinks, Frank Zappa, The Grateful Dead, Bruce Springsteen and a dozen other artists. These individual collections comprise half of the collection. The remaining collection of individual artists include pop, rock, metal, folk and other styles of music that range from the early 60’s to the late 80’s. The collection also includes 45’s and memorabilia.

Album Condition

I do not “play grade” the albums. The condition is determined by a visual inspection. Any flaws and wear will be noted through the summary and attached images. As with old albums some wear may be visible in bright light, but doesn’t affect play unless noted. Front and back cover photos of the actual album will be provided as well as relevant detail photos so you can make your own assessment as to what you are bidding on. What you see is what you’ll get.

If there is an unexpected issue that requires my attention, please contact me. All record sales are guaranteed.

Packaging and Mailing

The album will be removed from its original sleeve and placed in a plain paper sleeve to avoid seam splits in transit. The cover will be placed in a plastic sleeve to protect the exterior of the album. The exception to this is if the record is sealed.

The Record will be shipped in strong cardboard mailers with cardboard flats added to increase stability. The packing and mailing supplies may represent a small portion of the shipping charges.

Records will be shipped USPS Media Mail without insurance. USPS Priority Mail and insurance are available upon request if the buyer wishes to purchase them.

Winning bidder will pay shipping charges.
