THE BEATLES
A HARD DAY’S NIGHT
1968 STEREO
CAT. NO. PCS 3058
-1/ -2 MATRICES
A yellow and black Parlophone label pressing dated to 1968 having an extremely rare -2 matrix cutting on Side 2, with an error in the opening drum crack to 'Any Time At All' such that there is a fraction of a second omitted in the cutting process. Anyone familiar with the track would be able to tell the difference in that opening beat. It is thought that EMI reverted back to the -1 cutting shortly after noticing the problem, not re-instating a -2 matrix until around the mid-seventies. This theory being borne out by the very specific mother/ stamper combinations ever found on these -1/-2  pressings on the yellow and black Parlophone label (always 1 AT on side 2), and subsequent yellow and black Parlophone label variations and early 1970's silver and black variations being found with the standard -1/ -1 matrices.

Sleeve: Excellent condition. Has retained its original glossy finish, bright coloration and contrast... Corners are square and with straight unblemished edges and spine the sleeve is structurally sound; no tears, rips, or repairs, and no blemishes such as writing, ring-wear, or indentations.  There is a slight rippling effect to the opening side extreme edges. Lies completely flat and the fold-over's are still well adhered and clean, albeit with a few small laminate creases to the top one.

The Vinyl: Grades as Excellent Plus, essentially Mint Minus... Has retained a jet-black glossy pressing sheen all over both surfaces and looks to have been seldom played. There are no warps, no scuffs, no needle drops, no groove wear, no scratches, and no stand-out hairlines. The surfaces are clean and have retained their original lustre and project a strong mirror-like shine. Inspected closely under a strong light there is an area of feint sleeve removal traces and a few extremely feint non-sounding wispy hairlines visible. The condition clearly conveys the propensity for an outstanding audio rendition.

Mothers & Stampers: 34 GT / 1 AH

Inner Sleeve: Original inner sepia EMI advertising inner sleeve in Excellent Condition with no splits or discolouration, and neat opening seam. Amazing to have stayed in this condition for this long too. Has a few handling creases.

The Labels: Mint-Minus condition. No play-wear to the spindle perimeter, and only a couple of small localised spindle line traces each side. No KT tax code present.

The Audio: There are no audible detractions, no discernible deviation from the original audio quality. It plays as well as likely to be possible, very clear and lucid with only the occasional static type sound tic which are only audible in a few of the linking grooves between tracks and possibly the odd static tic due to age/ storage of the record in some of the fades in's/ out's. Lucid instrumental detail with perfect stereo channelling, deep bass and clear vocals. No jumps, no pops, no clicks, no skips, no background noise, no sticks etc. Comparable to new record quality.
