The Beatles - The Early Beatles - Mono Scranton PA Pressing In Shrink
The Early Beatles is one of those LP's that sold in slightly less quantity than some of the other titles in the Capitol catalog. The reason is that this LP was merely another repackaging of The Beatles actual first 1963 American LP "Introducing The Beatles" that was already issued and torturously repackaged by Vee Jay on several different albums such as "Songs and Pictures", "Beatles and Frank Ifield On Stage/Jolly What", "Beatles Vs. Four Seasons" etc. in order to cash in on the Beatlemania craze. After Capitol was through with litigation over Vee Jay's contract terms regarding the songs on the LP, they were finally free to release them on the label in 1965 and this LP was the result. In hindsight, it was a bit misleading for the label to use a contemporary photograph (the same photo used on the back of 1965's "Beatles For Sale") but this was probably done purposely to move units by confusion even though the title was truthful in declaring the album "early" material.
Most copies of this LP are fairly whipped and those that aren't and are in better condition sell for well over $100.
Nice entry level players copy in shrink. Plays through without skipping but was well loved by the original owner but not entirely abused. Lots of light scratches but the record plays through without any serious disruption and although some noise is evident between tracks, the wear and various scratches does not prevent this from being an enjoyable play and noise does not overpower the tracks. Certainly not for the picky collector looking for a near mint or excellent pressing, but a great entry level example without split seams and most of the jacket is preserved by the shrink with some mild age spots. Breath holes in shrink (see close up photo) and there is some tape staining where the shrink was taped and a little bit of age staining here and there. Nice Labels on the record and this comes with a 1966 Goldenrod inner sleeve.
