THE BEATLES - " LET IT BE (Special Edition Box Set) ", Apple Records Ltd. (PXS 1) Stereo, 1970.
Very rare, 1970, English early issue/pressing LP of the classic Beatles LP in it's ultra rare box set form.
Although all Beatles releases can be something of a minefield to identify exactly which issue you have, by cross-referencing the RC 2014 Price Guide and others sold/listed in retrospect on popsike.com, I believe this one I have for sale is the very first issue. I will provide all the info I can and several pictures to confirm the issue and the condition it is in. I must also point out that the earliest examples of these first issues came with a mini-poster - this is not one of them, or it has been lost.
The record itself features cat number PCS 7096 and matrix numbers; YEX 773-2U / YEX 774-2U (first matrix). It has the dark green apple on the label, is in a laminated G&L sleeve with a red apple on the rear and comes with a white inner sleeve. It includes a 'Get Back' book and is all housed in the elaborate black, tray and box packaging which does not feature the the set's PXS 1 catalogue anywhere on it (first variant).
English issue and pressing.
Professionally cleaned on my Moth record cleaning machine and then put in a fresh new poly-lined inner sleeve (the original inner sleeve has been kept and included in the auction - see photo)
As this LP is always gonna reach a decent price in the end, I will start it at just 99p.
CONDITION:
VINYL = EX- (No deep scratches, no groove damage, no distortion, light spindle trails, etc. Under a bright grading lamp I can make out some very light marks which are visibly noticeable but also extremely shallow and a few other faint paper scuffs just visible on the vinyl's surface - although none of these correspond directly to any audible defects. It generally plays pretty well, but there is some very faint occasional surface noise audible during the run-in and between tracks. The record plays strong and vibrant without any distortion or other signs of audio degradation, I did hear the odd faint click or crackle in the background from time to time during a couple of quieter intros, but I weas using headphones to hear this and generally once the music kicks in that's all you can hear.
Like so many well-pressed 60s/70s records, it wears a few superficial marks well and definitely plays better than it looks.
Overall, although it is not quite perfect and I realise this will affect the value, it is by no means ruined by these very minor imperfections and would still make a good honest copy for someone to play and enjoy.
Note: for the purposes of this listing I have tested this LP on my Linn LP12 Sondek turntable - generally this is quite a critical test, but I must point out that I cannot guarantee exactly how this LP will sound on your turntable - common sense for most... but then this is ebay!!!)
SLEEVE = V.G.++ (No rips, tears, big damage, defacing, etc. But had to be marked down for some lighter creases in the laminate along the spine, a little bit of light delamination and a couple of other scuffs on the back of the sleeve - see photos for further clarification)
BOOK = EX- (Basically has hardly been used... importantly, the very fragile spine is still intact - would have been a straight EX but for some extremely light delamination near the spine - see photo)
BOX/TRAY = V.G. (I've seen much worse, but this one does have it's share of defects - there's the usual wear around the edges, some light creases and the tray looks a bit crumpled and has a couple of small tears running away from where the book is housed. Although it's a long way from the perfect mint examples I've seen from past sales on popsike, it's still an intact box... plus, perfect examples of this record have sold for anything up to or even over £3000 GBP! So, my lesser example with a 99p start price could be a real bargain)
