THE BEATLES: Please Please Me (Parlophone, PMC 1202, 1963, LP)
Side 1 has RDG stamped at three o'clock, whilst side 2 has GTH. Matrix suffix is 1N both sides.
See the photos for sleeve condition, which is quite nice for early copies of this record, the only real problems being some damage to flipbacks and some shelf/edge wear. Despite a few surface marks, the record plays very nicely with some audible background only heard during a few track bands. To be honest, the second best playing copy of this I've ever heard (I'm keeping the other one!).
Bizarre Beatles-related coincidence #2 at the Hunter's Lodge pub, top of Mendip, in the middle of nowhere. Sunday lunchtime, post-Cheddar carboot, sometime pre-Covid, looking at the morning's haul of records. An elderly chap started taking interest when seeing the sort of 1950s/early 1960s classical LPs on Columbia that I'd bought, and introduced himself as Angus McBean's assistant in the very early 1960s. I knew that name from at least one of my Flanders & Swann LPs. He reminded me that it was also his boss that had taken the photo of the Beatles on the front cover of this one and then went on to tell me all about it.
EMI was throwing a party for Brian Epstein and the group to celebrate them finishing recording the album. McBean and his assistant had been at (presumably) Abbey Road as official photographer and they all piled into cars to get to Manchester House where the party was. The Beatles got there first and, as McBean and assistant were walking from car to building, the Beatles shouted from above, where they'd been hiding to surprise McBean. So, he took a photo of them, impromptu and unplanned. Iconic moment of history documented!
Bizarre Beatles-related coincidence #1 at the Hunter's Lodge pub? In probably September 2015 bumping into Mike Tobin, Stackridge's manager, whilst he was returning home during the band's final tour. Stackridge, of course, were famously produced by George Martin (who was also recording the soundtrack to Live and Let Die, complete with Wings, at that point), and when the band sacked their drummer during recording, he became Martin's chauffeur.
I reckon there's a Beatles trivia ley line up there!
*    *    *    * Records generally have hairline marks from going in and out of sleeves - I do not mention these unless they cause audible noise. All records are play tested unless explicitly stated otherwise. Most of the records I am selling play at "Excellent" or "Very Good" as per Record Collector grading. Any specific defects are otherwise described in the listing. Please look at the photos carefully for condition of sleeves/labels.
All items won, up to a value of £50.00, will be sent as Royal Mail 'signed for'. If items are bid above £50.00 (or multiple items combine to more than £50), they will be sent as Royal Mail Special Delivery, so that parcels are correctly insured against loss or damage in transit. If you win multiple items, please wait for me to invoice with correct postage. Note that the postage costs stated include packaging costs. Where possible, packaging will be recycled but sturdy/secure.
Combined postage *for UK buyers only* - 6 single LPs costs the same to post as 1 single LP. Note that if you win items in multiple formats, (e.g., an LP and a CD), these have to be sent as multiple parcels (though I can bundle up 7" records with an LP).
*Non-UK bidders* please note that I use eBay's Global Shipping Programme, which means every item won has to be packaged and sent separately so combined postage is not possible.
Non-paying high bidders will be blocked from bidding on future items.
*    *    *    * Unless stated otherwise, all items are from my own collection. Most has been in storage for nearly 20 years. Lockdowns made me wonder why I have multiple copies of records that I will never listen to. There are about 8,000 more items to come from my rambling progressive, jazz fusion, folk, blues, 1950s stereo classical and easy listening, psychedelic, reggae, ambient, spoken word, comedy, railway, field recordings, electronic and occasionally just plain 'out there' collection.
