Greetings music lovers and welcome back to my listings offering you lucky lot some serious slices of vinyl as, once again, it’s time to thin-out the old collection. As ever, it’s either the more interesting, rare book valued stuff, or pristine copies of those more recent lp’s you’d always been after or in some cases, both. The best quality of service and product are still my mantras from the start to finish of the process…

·         I grade honestly to the strict “Record Collector” grading system.

·         Listings have a nice, low-start price, finding the correct level eventually…

·         I only sell high quality vinyl, some rare, some far less so, but always the best I can find.

·         If it says “NM”… it means “NM”.

·         Start prices are NOT indicative of condition, so there’s serious potential bargains to be had.

·         Every lp is re-housed in a high-quality polly-lined inner sleeve & a thick pollythene outer sleeve.

·         Every lp is both visually and aurally inspected. The ONLY way to appoint an accurate grading.

·         Every lp is re-housed in the polly sleeve, outside the original prior to packaging. No splits!

·         I package every lp personally with a ludicrous level of care… each is practically a work of art.

·         I strive to provide the VERY best product and service levels possible, with detailed descriptions.

Introduction and MacLizardking’s Initial Review: A bit worn at the corners and with some surface marks on an utter SLAB of vinyl, here’s the lp that no music collection should be without; the seminal “Please Please Me” by The Beatles. This 1N/1N  pressing on the Yellow & Black labels comes in the original E.J. Day & Co laminated sleeve and, as you’ll see from the photos, has “The Parlophone Co” and “Recording First Published 1963” credits, but is WITHOUT “Sold In UK…” text. As the gradings denote, this is NOT MINT, however, I must state that the vinyl is the STAR here… if you want a copy to LISTEN to, then I rather fancy you’ve just found it… this one sounds PHENOMINAL!  

Now, please read on for the full, glorious detail, being both my personal description statement and accuracy of condition guarantee, not to mention the stack of photo’s contained within the listing detail itself. I’ve split these in to two sections now (Sleeve and Vinyl) located immediately beneath my description. All listings benefit from a full play through, on my “every-glitch-audible” grading set up of classic wooden Revolver deck and Pioneer A333 amp, all pulsing through a rather splendid pair of Wharfedale Pacific Pi-40 floor-standers.

Detailed Cover & Inner-sleeve Review.

Specific cover grading: VG

Comment: E.J. Day & Co – NO major issues, just a little worn in places.

Front: Tight lamination and very little colour loss. Stress creases to seams and LIGHT corner dinks. Beyond that, not bad at all!

Back: All fold-backs undamaged and firmly in place, slightly discoloured toward sleeve opening, but, again as per the front, still in pretty good nick.

Edges & Corners: Had had a couple of corner dinks during its history, hence grading, so fuzzed corners with the bottom of the sleeve opening being the one that’s actually got about 2mm of damage on the lower seam.

Spine: Bar dink at bottom, still in very good shape and fully legible.

Inner-sleeve: EMITEX polly liner with just creasing but no splits, now with brand new polly-liner.

Extras: None

Sleeve Photos:

Record Collector Sleeve Gradings;

M (Mint): “The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition”

NM (Near Mint): The slightest whisper off perfect, as described above.

EX (Excellent): “The cover and packaging might have minor ware and/or creasing”

VG (Very Good): “Normal ware and tare on the cover and extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable”

G (Good): “The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration etc”.

F (Fair): “The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced”.

P (Poor): “The cover or contents will be badly damaged or partly missing”.

Detailed Vinyl/s & Labels Review.

Specific Vinyl grading: VG++

Comment: Looks promising, but sounds FANTASTIC!

Visual: Light surface hairlines and a couple of scuffs of side 2, but still retains a great depth of coal-black gloss.

Audio: It’s always with a sense of trepidation (and major hope!) when I place the needle on these early 60’s lp’s…” it looks okay, but has it been played on a Dansette and been “eaten” alive?!?!” Well, in this instance, I’m delighted to state that the answer is a resounding “NO”!

It’s not utterly silent (obviously – if you want that, buy the CD!) but beyond the slightest background tickle of crackle between a few of the tracks and equally slight top-end sibilance during some pieces, this one’s a real winner. As I said above, given the sleeve’s seen some action, this is an ideal playing copy. It’s sharp, punchy, loud Mono reproduction is consistent start to finish both sides… consistently good, that is! As an early example of one of the most important records released in the history of modern music, if you need a copy to be able to put on the turn-table in order to amaze those individuals who don’t yet realise the simple pleasures of hearing this critical, seminal lp as it was heard in the 60’s, then I rather fancy you’ve just found it! I checked the audio against my personal copy and found this to be a very close run thing… if the sleeve had been just a fraction tidier, I’d have probably auctioned my own copy… and I can say no fairer than that!

Photos: All photos are VERY carefully set up, with NO possibility what-so-ever of damage to the precious vinyl being photographed!

Record Collector Vinyl Gradings;

M (Mint): “The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality.”

NM (Near Mint): The slightest whisper off perfect, as described above.

EX (Excellent): “The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality”

VG (Very Good): “The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch”

G (Good): “The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches”

F (Fair): “The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump”.

P (Poor): “The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise etc”.

B (Bad) : “The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler”.

After the auction…

The evening an auction has finished, or on a Monday morn for items finishing at the weekend, I’ll e-mail as follows; should you wish to combine and/or bid on further items, just let me know and I’ll re-invoice when you’ve finished – max 5 discs per package.

2. Payment received e-mail. Feedback is also left at this stage. You’ve done your bit, so now it’s up to me!

Two LP’s: A slightly larger item of beauty! Small boxed edge, cruciform record mailer with three midi-stiffeners. Banded with mesh tape, outer edges sealed and protected with gaffer tape. Gaffer tape sealed down with coloured packing tape (make identification easier at the post office!) then the whole thing’s banded with “Fragile” tape.

Three LP’s: Now we’re getting there! Large boxed edge, cruciform record mailer with four/five midi-stiffeners. Side sealed and banded with mesh tape, outer edges sealed and protected with gaffer tape. Gaffer tape sealed down with coloured packing tape (make identification easier at the post office!) then the whole thing’s banded with “Fragile” tape.

Four LP’s: An item of serious beauty! Large boxed edge, cruciform record mailer with six/seven large-stiffeners. Side sealed and banded with mesh tape, outer edges sealed and protected with double gaffer tape. Gaffer tape sealed down with coloured packing tape (make identification easier at the post office!) then the whole thing’s banded with “Fragile” tape.

Five LP’s: “Le Mutts Cahones!” Large boxed edge, cruciform record mailer with eight large-stiffeners. Side sealed with packing tape, banded with mesh tape, outer edges sealed and protected with double gaffer tape. Gaffer tape sealed down with coloured packing tape (make identification easier at the post office!) then the whole thing, again side sealed and then banded with “Fragile” tape.

P&P Prices:

UK = £3.50 per disc

Europe = £5.00 per disc

Rest of World = £12.00 per disc – all items are now sent by “International Signed For” service. Apologies, but unless you’re a regular client, this is now non-negotiable.

Additional Items

Please add the following cost per disc, up to a maximum of 5 discs per package.

UK + £0.50p per disc

Europe / Rest of World + £2.00 per disc

Please note: I always try to post as quickly as possible after you’ve paid, but I no longer have the luxury of working next door to a post office, therefore, it’s going to be the Saturday morning after you’ve paid that I load all my packages and head out in to the wilds to the nearest post office! These costs are for the standard GB postage rate and at least £1.00’s worth of packaging materials. Each package takes considerable time and care to wrap, but I’m giving you this for free! As you’ll see when you receive your lp. There is no profit and the charges are not negotiable; particularly post sale!

Registration and Insurance of Packages

“Proof of Postage” certification is available for all packages

All invoices will automatically offer the option of registration, providing both a tracking number and up to £30.00 compensation.

These fees are offered on all sales invoices as standard, it is your choice as to whether or not to take up this additional cover with costs as per below.

“Signed For Service” UK = £1.00 per package.

Europe & Rest of The World = £4.00 per package (included in fees above outside of Europe)

These services provide insurance up to £30. If you require additional cover, please request it.

Payment Methods:

PayPal is now the ONLY accepted payment method.

Problems, Refunds & The “Boink” Factor:

·         If the item you win differs from the description above, I will refund your original payment.

·         Refund will be issued on receipt of item in original packaging in the same condition as when dispatched.

·         Proof of dispatch certification is obtained for every package.

·         I take GREAT care with packaging and have only ever had 3 arrive damaged out of over 2500!

Whilst this may all appear slightly excessive on the detail front, I do go to great lengths to ensure the accuracy of these listings and promote “service” and “honesty” as treasured commodities as, on rare occasion, I have found them to be lacking in (one or two) others with whom I have dealt on e-bay… however, NOT here! I feel I should also add that I have been professionally involved in the music, entertainment or service industry for the last 25 years and as a fan of all genres of “quality” music since year “dot”…  To verify all this manic attention to detail  please do check my feedback, which I go to great lengths to keep positive and my buyers are both cool and kind enough to leave.
