Description
THE BEATLES – PLEASE PLEASE ME - MONO 1963. 1st pressing. Very rare GOLD & BLACK Parlophone label, with Dick James credits.
This is the first ever pressing of the first Beatles album. Catalogue number: PMC 1202.
Very short-lived first pressing with black / gold labels (the main pressing with classic Parlophone black & yellow labels was released a couple of months later).
SLEEVE: EX+
Original - and still really shiny - front laminated, tri-flipback sleeve. No structural damage of any kind.
3 minor things to note:
- evidence that the top right part of flipback has come away at some point and been slightly clumsily stuck back (see photo).
- previous owner’s name written in biro (small, thankfully) near bottom right of back cover (see photo).
- there are what look like a couple of pencil marks on back cover near opening (again, see photo). I haven’t dared to try to rub these out, but you may wish to!
Printed and Made by Ernest J Day & Co. Ltd.
VINYL
Visual: Mint -
A first pressing from March 1963 and it LOOKS SHINY AND NEW! REALLY AMAZING! A couple of hairlines if you look up to a VERY strong light, but otherwise NOTHING! Beautiful!
Matrix / Runout (Side A runout): XEX 421-1N
Matrix / Runout (Side B runout): XEX 422-1N
Audio: EX++ / M-
No skips, sticks or clicks. Full deep sound, completely free from any traces of distortion. Sounds (and looks) like it has only ever been test-played – and is 56 years old!
Labels: MINT
A really clean pair - NO spindle marks!
Dick James publishing credits, none credited to Northern Songs. Songwriting credited McCartney / Lennon.
INNER SLEEVE:
Original printed polylined inner sleeve – undamaged other than creased at one corner!
Please view my photos as they are part of the description. And any questions, please feel free to ask!
THIS IS AN EXTREMELY RARE AND FABULOUS GEM. In my decades of collecting records, I have never seen or heard a 1st pressing of this album anywhere near as good as this.
