FROM 'RAREBEATLES':
Because of the success of Rarities in Europe, Capitol Records automatically scheduled this "new Beatles record" for a November 1979 U.S. release and went ahead and pressed promotional copies (Capitol SN-12009, green label). Fortunately for American record buyers, this LP was never put out. Production was stopped and Capitol ordered all existing copies destroyed although a few did make their way into the collectors market. (http://www.rarebeatles.com/boxsets/rarit.htm)

The 'gallery' pictures illustrate the general condition of the vinyl and labels. The vinyl is actually in EX condition and without scratches. The pictures show an abundance of dust, the lightest of scuffs, and a fingerprint or two which, I am confident, can be removed via careful surface cleaning - a process which I am reluctant to engage for fear of unintentionally damaging the vinyl as a consequence of my inexperience in vinyl-cleaning.

The labels, too, are unblemished. Deficiencies in the vinyl, beneath the labels, are 'as-manufactured'.

As mentioned above, the production process of this unreleased version of 'rarities' had advanced only to the point where a limited-run of vinyl had been pressed; as far as can be determined, no sleeves had been printed by the time the decision to abandon the project was made by Capitol.

This version of 'Rarities' (SN-12009) should not be confused with the later official release of 'Rarities' in 1980 (SHAL-12080), or the bootleg 'Beatles Collector's Items' album (SPRO 9462).
